EAST STROUDSBURG - Freshmen Katie D'Ambrosia and Jamie Ferrigno won their doubles point and both singles matches to lead the women to a 5-4 victory, and the men swept all three doubles matches on their way to a 7-2 win as East Stroudsburg University topped West Chester in PSAC tennis on Saturday.

The Golden Rams managed wins in the top two singles matches but nothing else against the ESU men, who notched their first conference win of the season. Senior Jeff Kurz and freshman Jared Howat won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, juniors Julian Taibi and Rob Mikolon posted a 9-7 decision at No. 2 and freshmen Will Norris and Ryan Baxter were dominant in an 8-1 victory at No. 3 for the Warriors.

In singles play, Howat (6-2, 6-1), Norris (6-3, 6-1), Taibi (6-4, 7-6) and Mikolon (6-2, 6-2) all won in straight sets for the Warriors at the third through sixth spots in the lineup.

In the women's match-up, D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles and won two of the Warriors' three singles matches on the afternoon. D'Ambrosia beat Rose Conwell, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 and Ferrigno topped Katie Edwards 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4.

Senior Shana Morris earned a 6-4, 6-4 win against Maria Kostaris at first singles, and junior Sarah Deisher and sophomore Marissa Tanner teamed up for an 8-5 victory at third doubles.

West Chester won 8-6 at first doubles and also took the second, fifth and sixth singles matches, including Teresa Grasso's 6-4, 4-6 (7-1) decision against sophomore Liz Farnsworth at the final singles slot.

The ESU women return to the court on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against Shippensburg, while the men are back in action next weekend at Millersville.
