OAKDALE, N.Y. - Ashley Rosindale scored less than four minutes into the first overtime as Lock Haven beat East Stroudsburg University 2-1, Friday morning in the first round of the NCAA Division II soccer playoffs at Dowling College.
Rosindale scored in the first half to give Lock Haven a 1-0 lead. Jason Rudder tied the game in the second half and forced overtime. That set up Rosindale's second goal and moved Lock Haven into the second round.
Lock Haven, now 17-5-1, will play Dowling in the second round of the playoffs, Sunday at 1 p.m. at Dowling. Dowling beat C.W. Post 3-0 in the other regional first round game.
Rosindale took a pass from Chris Spinks and found the back of the net from the right side for the game-winning goal.
ESU was called for a handball in the penalty box 35 minutes in the first half. Rosindale took the penalty kick and was turned away by ESU keeper Dan Frick. Frick made a diving stop of the kick but the ball went right back to Rosindale and he knocked in the rebound for a 1-0 lead.
The Warriors had chances early. Roshane Ellison hit the crossbar 10 minutes into the game, Kevin Holmes was wide right five minutes later and Copeland Lewis had a direct kick knocked over the top of the goal.
Rudder tied the game in the 77 minute. Toric Robinson took a corner, Shane McFarland headed it to Rudder and Rudder headed into the back of the net for the tying goal.
Lock Haven had the first scoring chance in the extra session and Rosindale took advantage in the fourth meeting between the two teams. Each team has won twice.
Each team had 23 shots on goal and Lock Haven had one more corner kick. Frick made seven saves, including one off a rebound late in the first half.
