EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa made nine saves for his 28th career shutout as East Stroudsburg University finished its 2009 men’s soccer season with a 1-0 win over West Chester on Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Pokrywa’s nine saves were the second-most in a shutout in his career, which included 61 starts. He ranks second in career shutouts and third with 265 saves, and was first team All-PSAC and the PSAC championship game MVP as a sophomore in 2007. He had 11 saves in a 3-0 shutout against Gannon last season.

Senior forward Jason Rudder finished his career with the game-winning goal in the 77th minute. ESU held an 18-13 advantage in shots, but didn’t put many on goal and Rudder’s score was the difference.

The Warriors finish the year with an 11-8-1 record, the 26th season with at least 10 wins in 28 years under head coach Jerry Sheska. Saturday’s game was the final appearance for eight seniors who contributed to two PSAC championship and three NCAA tournament teams.

Midfielder Toric Robinson had 28 career assists, tied for fifth in school history, and is a three-time All-PSAC and two-time Academic All-District selection. He advanced to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration on Thursday.

Robinson and midfielder Shane McFarlane made 83 career starts for the Warriors and back Trevor Kelley had 65 starts over the last three seasons. Pokrywa, Rudder, Chris Duggan, Tom Ehrlich and Bobby Wynn also closed their careers at ESU.
