PSAC Release
EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior back Copeland Lewis leads a conference-high five East Stroudsburg University men's soccer players named to the All-PSAC first team from the reigning PSAC champions.
Lewis is the sweeper for an ESU defense that has allowed just 15 goals in 22 games and has four straight shutouts entering this weekend's NCAA Division II Northeast Regional, which will be held at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The No. 1 seed Warriors will host No. 4 NYIT on Friday at 7 p.m., preceded by No. 2 Dowling vs. No. 3 Bridgeport at 4 p.m.
Lewis is a repeat selection to the first team, where he is joined by junior Roshane Ellison and sophomores Shane McFarlane, Toric Robinson and Jason Rudder. Junior forward Jason Shegda was named to the second team.
Ellison leads ESU with 11 goals and 24 points and was a first team choice at forward after making the second team at midfield in 2006. Shegda has nine goals and three assists despite missing four games due to injury in the middle of the season.
McFarlane, Robinson and Rudder, all sophomores, give ESU three of the four first-team selections in the midfield. Rudder has six goals and three assists, Robinson leads the Warriors with nine assists, and McFarlane has two goals and two assists this season. McFarlane and Robinson were both on the second team as freshmen.
The Warriors successfully defended their 2006 PSAC championship last Saturday with a 1-0 (2OT) win over Lock Haven, and have won 13 of the last 16 conference titles. They will be making their 18th appearance in the Division II Playoffs and the 15th under head coach Jerry Sheska.
