East Stroudsburg, PA - In a rematch of the heartbreaking Northeast Regional loss to NYIT in penalty kicks in 2005, defending national champion Dowling College prevailed with a 4-0 victory over NYIT on Sunday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Golden Lions advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament with a 17-2-3 record, while NYIT ends post-season play with a 14-4-3 overall record.

The Golden Lions and the Bears battled in the middle of the field for the first 20 minutes of the half going back and forth until ECC Offensive Player of the Year Ahmadoul Gaye (Dakar, Senegal) capitalized on a loose ball in the box for his second goal of the NCAA Tournament with 22:08 remaining in the half.

The Golden Lions continued to pressure the Bear defense resulting in their second goal of the game just two minutes later. ECC Defender of the Year Thomas Vaaland (Stavanger, Norway) beat NYIT goalkeeper Cosimo D'Agostino to give the Golden Lions a 2-0 cushion heading into the half.

In the second half, the Golden Lions continued to pressure the Bears back line firing off shots but were unable to find the back of the net until the 66th minute of play. Junior Laurencin (St. Lucia) capitalized on his second goal of the tournament unassisted when he beat his defender one-on-one in the box for a three goal advantage.

With 16:26 remaining in the game, defender Pat Cunningham (Oakdale, NY) sent a ball up to freshman Marcus Come (Gothenburg, Sweden) who tallied his 12th goal of the season to give the Golden Lions a commanding 4-0 lead.

Junior Laurencin tallied two goals and 1 assist in the tournament to lead all teams with 5 points as he was named to the All-Tournament team as the Offensive Player. Meshach Tinglin (Portmore, Jamacia) was named the Defensive Player of the Tournament, and midfielders Carl Rydin (Gothenburg, Sweden) and Ahmadoul Gaye (Dakar, Senegal) and defender Thomas Vaaland (Stavenger, Norway) were all named to the All-Tournament Team.

NYIT placed defenders Josue Cruz (Hempstead, NY) and Oscar Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain), midfielder Frank Spanos (West Islip, NY), and forward Kyle Cupid (Chaguanas, Trinidad) on the All-Tournament Team. Bridgeport forward Paulo Goncalves (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and East Stroudsburg University midfielder Jason Rudder (Arima, Trinidad) also represented their institutions.

The Golden Lions will continue on in the NCAA Tournament as they face Franklin Pierce of the New England Region in the Quarterfinals next weekend.
