EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University senior fullback Anthony Carfagno has been chosen to participate in the 2006 Cactus Bowl January 6 in Kingsville, Texas.

The Cactus Bowl is a showcase for seniors and Carfagno will play on the East team. Five days of team practices and meetings are scheduled and professional scouts will be on hand to administer strength, speed and agility tests. Kickoff for the game is 6:35 at Javalina Stadium.

Carfagno has had a record-breaking career and will look to add to those records when the Warriors host C.W. Post Saturday at noon at Eiler-Martin Stadium in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals.

For the season, Carfagno has rushed 94 times for 603 yards and 13 scores. He is averaging 6.4 yards per carry, following a career-best 170 yards in an upset of No. 2 Bloomsburg last week. He has also caught 46 passes for 585 yards and nine touchdowns. He averages 12.7 yards per catch. He leads the team with 22 touchdowns.

For his career, the 6-0, 246-pounder has rushed 269 times for 1,498 yards and caught 165 passes for 2,326 yards. He has a school and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record 66 career touchdowns.

Defensive lineman Dustin Barno was the last Warrior to play in the Cactus Bowl, doing so in 2003.

Carfagno was also honored as the ABC Trophy Inc Athlete of the Week following his performance against Bloomsburg. Carfagno rushed 19 times for those 170 yards. He averaged 8.9 yards per carry and scored once. He also caught three passes for 30 yards.

Each week ABC Trophy, Inc., of Stroudsburg awards an ESU Athlete of the Week. The selection is announced Tuesday and each student receives a red and silver plaque.
