EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University quarterback Jimmy Terwilliger, the 2005 Harlon Hill Award winner as the Division II Player of the Year, has signed a rookie free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
Terwilliger set 12 NCAA records and 15 ESU records during his career, including tying the NCAA all-division record with 148 career touchdown passes. He holds Division II career records for passing yards (14,350), total offense (16,064) and passing touchdowns. He ranks third all-time in college football history in total offense, behind only Timmy Chang of Hawaii and Steve McNair of Alcorn State, and fourth in passing yards, behind Chang, McNair and Ty Detmer of BYU.
Terwilliger's All-America career was highlighted by a record-setting junior season in which he became the first ESU player to earn the Harlon Hill Award as the most outstanding player in Division II. Terwilliger threw for 4,571 yards and 50 touchdowns in 14 games as the Warriors won the Division II Northeast Regional championship and advanced to the national semifinals for the first time in school history.
His other NCAA records include most games with a touchdown pass (47), consecutive games with a touchdown pass (37), games with 300 yards of total offense (23), games with 200 yards passing (43), games with at least three touchdown passes (28), points by a quarterback in a single season (324), and points by a quarterback in a career (744).
As a senior, Terwilliger threw for 2,966 yards and 35 touchdowns against just seven interceptions. He was a national finalist for the Harlon Hill Award, placing fourth, and was named to All-America teams by the Associated Press, Football Gazette and D2football.com. Terwilliger placed fifth in the Harlon Hill balloting as a sophomore in 2004.
For his career, Terwilliger completed 61.2 percent of his passes (906-of-1,481) and had a passing efficiency of 175.3. He holds the school records in both single season categories as well, with a 64.2 completion percentage and a 186.0 quarterback rating in 2005.
Terwilliger also ran for 1,714 yards and 13 touchdowns in his four years. He accounted for 4,960 yards of total offense and 54 total touchdowns as a junior, and was involved in 161 touchdowns in his career.
He joins wide receiver Evan Prall as the second Warrior to sign an NFL rookie free agent contract in as many days.
