EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University kicker Mark Brubaker has signed a free agent contract with the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers it was announced Monday. Punter Ken Parrish and fullback Anthony Carfagno had not signed contacts as of Monday afternoon.
Brubaker signed his contract early Monday and will report to a mandatory three-day min-camp at the end of next week along with the other 12 free agents signed by the Steelers. The mini-camp will be held May 13-15 at the Steelers' headquarters at the PUMC Sports Performance Complex.
The Steelers did not draft a kicker and Brubaker was the only free agent kicker signed. Jeff Reed, who has been with the Steelers for four years, is the lone kicker listed on the roster.
Brubaker (Stouchsburg/Conrad Weiser) concluded his career with a stellar senior season. He was a four-time All Pennsylvania-State Athletic Conference selection and a key part behind the Warriors' run to the NCAA semifinals. He made 74 of 79 extra points, an ESU record and also converted nine chances in the 72-17 season-opening victory over Bentley, tying a school record.
Brubaker, 6-2, 202, was 14 of 19 on field goals with a long of 48 yards. He kicked a 42-yard field goal with three seconds left to beat Edinboro in the second week of the season and then made a 24-yard field goal as time expired to send the Bloomsburg regular season game into overtime.
For his career, he is 39 of 58 on field goals and 170 of 189 PAT's and has 287 career points, all ESU records.
Brubaker is the first ESU player to be signed since Dustin Barno inked a free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans.
The other free agents signed by the Steelers include East Carolina safety Zach Baker; Princeton tight end Jonathan Dekker; South Dakota State offensive lineman Nick Hageman; Ohio State linebacker Mike Kudia; Tennessee State safety Jamar Landrom; West Virginia safety Mike Lorello; Arizona State offensive lineman Grayling Love; Alabama cornerback Anthony Madison; Penn State defensive tackle Scott Paxson; Penn State tight end Isaac Smolko; and North Alabama defensive end Lee Vickers.
