CLARION, Pa. - Quarterback Jimmy Terwilliger, the 2005 Harlon Hill Trophy winner from East Stroudsburg University, and running back Lorenzo Perry, a 2006 finalist for the Hill Trophy, headline a talented 2006 All-Northeast Region Team selected by Don Hansen's Football Gazette.
This marks the fifth year Football Gazette has selected NCAA Division II All-Region teams. The national publication, an authority on small college football, has selected NCAA Division II All-America teams since 1998.
The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2006NCAA Division II Football Gazette All-America team will be named later this month.
Terwilliger, a senior from East Stroudsburg, shattered the NCAA all-division all-time record for passing touchdowns, finishing his decorated career with 14,350 passing yards and 148 TDs. He passed for 2,966 yardsand 35 TDs during his senior campaign, ranking second in Division II in total offense (315.2 ypg).
Perry, a senior from Providence, R.I., finished the season third nationally in rushing, while leading Bryant to its first-ever NCAA-II playoff apperance. He rushed the ball 291 times for 1,924 yards (6.6 ypc) and 20 TDs,averaging 174.9 yards per game.
National semifinalist Bloomsburg University led the way with nine honorees, while WVIAC champion and national quarterfinalist Shepherd University had six honorees.
A total of 102 players earned some form of Football Gazette All-Northeast Region honors. Players from 28 football-playing schools in the Northeast Region earned All-Northeast Region accolades.
