EAST STROUDSBURG - Evan Prall, East Stroudsburg University's all-time leading receiver, has signed a rookie free agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals, it was announced Monday.
Prall holds ESU career receiving records for catches (236), yards (4,093) and touchdowns (50), and also holds the school record with 5,666 all-purpose yards. He also set single season marks with 88 catches, 1,766 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior in 2005, as ESU was the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Champion and advanced to the national semifinals for the first time in school history.
Prall is among 20 rookie free agents to sign with the Cardinals and one of only two wide receivers to land a deal with the team.
"This is a great opportunity for an individual who worked extremely hard in college to put himself in position for this chance to make an NFL roster," said ESU head football coach Denny Douds.
Prall formed half of one of the most prolific pass-catch combos in Division II history, as he teamed with quarterback Jimmy Terwillger for 164 catches, 2,940 yards and 40 touchdowns over the past two seasons. Terwilliger holds Division II career records for passing yards (14,350) and total offense (16,064), and his 148 touchdown passes are tied for the most in college football history.
In addition to his career records at wide receiver, Prall set the Warriors' single season punt return average record with a 17.9-yard average last season, which included two returns for touchdowns. Prall averaged 15.4 yards per punt return for his career, another school record, and had 1,573 career return yards (1,034 kick returns, 539 punt returns).
In 2006, Prall was named to the Associated Press Little All-America first team at all-purpose back and to the D2football.com All-America second team at wide receiver. He was named first team at wide receiver by both organizations following the 2005 season.
Prall caught a touchdown pass in all 14 games in 2005 and went over 100 yards receiving in all but two games. As a senior, he set a career-high with 254 yards on nine catches and scored four touchdowns against Lock Haven. In the final game of his career, Prall caught seven passes for 101 yards and a school-record five touchdowns vs. Kutztown. For his career, Prall recorded more than 100 yards receiving in 23 games, and caught multiple touchdown passes on 10 occasions.
