Football Gazette All-Region team

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University is represented by five players on the 2008 All-Super Region One Team selected by Don Hansen's Football Gazette, it was announced Friday.

Senior punter Nick Krut (Clarks Summit/Abington Heights) is on the first team, redshirt sophomore outside linebacker Matt Freed (Souderton/Souderton) is on the second team, and senior fullback Jesse Reider (Birdsboro/Exeter), senior wide receiver Drew Stem (Lincoln/Salesianum) and senior offensive lineman Keith Weaver (Upper Black Eddy/Palisades) are members of the third team.

Krut was a first team Daktronics Division II All-American and Associated Press Little All-American after leading Division II in punting (46.0-yard average) and net punting (39.7) during the 2008 season.

Freed was named to the Daktronics first team and AP third team following a standout season in his first year as a starter. He led the PSAC and was tied for fifth in Division II with 11.5 tackles per game and had 126 tackles, 11.0 tackles for a loss, four sacks and four interceptions while earning three PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week nods.

Reider was ESU's second-leading rusher, with 307 yards and seven touchdowns on 72 carries, while splitting time between the fullback and tailback positions. He made eight starts as a senior and was the Warriors' primary tailback over the final three games of the season, when he ran for 75 yards per game and scored four touchdowns in wins at C.W. Post, Millersville and Slippery Rock. Reider was team's Red Shirt Award recipient as a junior.

Stem was the third team selection at all-purpose back, combining his skills as a receiver and kick and punt returner. He finished second in school history in career kick return average (26.1) and holds the second and third spots in single season kick return average. Stem had six games with at least 100 all-purpose yards as a senior, including 206 at Clarion when he set his career-high with 132 yards receiving.

Weaver was a first team All-PSAC East selection after starting all 11 games at left guard in his only year as a starter. He helped the Warriors lead the PSAC with 298.9 passing yards per game and allowed just two sacks in more than 350 passing attempts. ESU had six 300-yard passing games, four games with at least 500 yards of total offense and scored 30 or more points in eight of its 11 contests.

Super Region One is comprised of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. A total of 108 players from 35 universities are represented on the team.
