Krut Leads Four Warriors on All-PSAC East Football First Team

EAST STROUDSBURG - Seniors Nick Krut, the nation's leading punter, Lionel Mitchell, Miguel Rivera and Keith Weaver were all named to the All-PSAC East first team, and three other East Stroudsburg University players were mentioned on the second team as voted on by the conference's coaches, it was announced Thursday.

Marshall, Freed Honored with PSAC Weekly Awards

EAST STROUDSBURG - Quarterback Matt Marshall was named the PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and outside linebacker Matt Freed took defensive honors for the third time this season for their efforts in a 38-21 win at Slippery Rock as East Stroudsburg University finished the 2008 football season with a 9-2 record.

Warriors Finish 9-2 Season with 38-21 Win at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK - Redshirt sophomore quarterback Matt Marshall threw for 365 yards and four touchdowns, two to senior wide receiver Doug Ogden, and East Stroudsburg University wrapped up the eighth nine-win season in school history with a 38-21 win at Slippery Rock on Saturday at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Freed Earns ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II First Team Honors

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University linebacker Matt Freed, the PSAC's leading tackler, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II football first team, it was announced Thursday. A redshirt sophomore, Freed has a 3.55 grade-point average in his first four semesters as a History major at ESU.

EAST STROUDSBURG - Redshirt sophomore quarterback Matt Marshall, the reigning PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week, has been recognized as the d2football.com National Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in East Stroudsburg University's 45-18 win at Millersville last Saturday.

ESU Football Game Notes vs. Slippery Rock

THE MATCH-UP:
East Stroudsburg University travels to Slippery Rock, the alma mater of head coach Denny Douds (class of 1963), looking to wrap up the eighth nine-win season in school history. The Warriors have won nine games in a season six times under Douds - 1975 (10-0), 1976 (9-0-1), 1978 (10-1), 1982 (9-2), 2004 (10-2) and 2005 (11-3). The Rock hasn't been kind to Douds or ESU, holding an 11-1 advantage in the all-time series.

MILLERSVILLE - Tim Roken, Matt Marshall and Sam Shuman threw touchdown passes as East Stroudsburg University rolled up 572 yards of total offense in a 45-18 win at Millersville on Saturday at Biemesderfer Stadium.

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior wide receiver Doug Ogden is the ABC Trophy, Inc. Athlete of the Week at East Stroudsburg University after catching eight passes for 194 yards and a touchdown in the Warriors' 48-42 win at C.W. Post last Saturday.

ESU Football Game Notes vs. Millersville

THE MATCH-UP:
East Stroudsburg University travels to Millersville for its final PSAC East game of the season with an opportunity to wrap up a 5-2 conference record and improve to 8-2 on the season for the ninth time in 35 seasons under head coach Denny Douds, the winningest coach in PSAC history. The Warriors are also looking to keep their NCAA Division II playoff hopes alive, entering this weekend ranked ninth in Super Regional 1, with the top six schools earning a trip to the postseason.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Senior quarterback Tim Roken hit wide receiver Doug Ogden for a 63-yard touchdown on the final offensive play of the first half to close a 35-point second quarter that propelled East Stroudsburg University to a 48-42 win at C.W. Post on Saturday afternoon.

ESU Football Game Notes vs. C.W. Post

THE MATCH-UP:
East Stroudsburg University hits the road for the first of three straight games away from Eiler-Martin Stadium to close the 2008 regular season. The Warrors travel to Long Island for their first-ever PSAC East game against C.W. Post, which joined the conference as an associate member for football and field hockey this year. The two squads are very familiar with each other, meeting eight times since 1978, including twice during the 2005 season. ESU won 66-49 at Hickox Field during the regular season and 55-28 in the Northeast Region championship game at Eiler-Martin Stadium which gave the Warriors their first-ever berth in the NCAA Division II semifinals.

Seniors Lead Warriors to 27-3 Win over Kutztown in Home Finale

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior tailback Joe Partridge led a productive offense with 27 carries for 97 yards and the Warriors' defense limited Kutztown to a third-quarter field goal as East Stroudsburg University posted a 27-3 victory on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

THE MATCH-UP:
East Stroudsburg University hosts Kutztown on Senior Day at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The Warriors are looking to improve to 6-2 and break a two-game slide after losses to PSAC East leaders West Chester and Bloomsburg the last two weeks. Kutztown is coming off a 42-21 win over Shippensburg and both teams enter with a 2-2 conference record.

BLOOMSBURG - No. 6-ranked Bloomsburg ran out to a 35-7 halftime lead and withstood East Stroudsburg University's comeback bid for a 42-23 victory in PSAC East football on Saturday afternoon at Redman Stadium.

ESU Football Game Notes vs. Bloomsburg

THE MATCH-UP: East Stroudsburg University hits the road for the first time since Sept. 13 with a trip to undefeated and No. 6-ranked Bloomsburg. The Warriors suffered their first loss of the season last Saturday, a 34-24 setback to West Chester. A win over the Huskies would put ESU back into the hunt for the PSAC East title and a trip to the State Game on Nov. 8.

EAST STROUDSBURG - Joe Wright threw two touchdown passes to Mike Washington and West Chester scored the final 21 points of the game to hand East Stroudsburg University its first loss of the season, 34-24, on Homecoming on Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Donations Requested for Military Appreciation Day at Bloomsburg on Oct. 11

BLOOMSBURG - Bloomsburg University will be holding Military Appreciation Day on Saturday, Oct. 11 when the Huskies football team hosts East Stroudsburg University at Redman Stadium in a PSAC East match-up. Kickoff is set for noon.

ESU Football Game Notes vs. West Chester

THE MATCH-UP:
East Stroudsburg University hosts West Chester in a match-up of two schools with PSAC championship game aspirations. The Warriors enter with a 5-0 record and 2-0 mark in PSAC East play. The Golden Rams, the defending PSAC East champions and preseason favorite, are 3-2 (2-0 PSAC East) with losses to PSAC West power California and Delaware, a perennial top 25 program at the Division I FCS level.

EAST STROUDSBURG - Redshirt sophomore quarterback Matt Marshall threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns, two to redshirt sophomore Jeff Giglio, and senior fullback Jesse Reider ran for two scores to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 52-12 win over Cheyney on Saturday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University senior quarterback Tim Roken is the ABC Trophy, Inc. Athlete of the Week after leading the Warriors to a 44-41 overtime win over Shippensburg that gave head coach Denny Douds the PSAC record with his 213th career victory.

ESU Football Game Notes vs. Cheyney

THE MATCH-UP: East Stroudsburg University looks for its fourth 5-0 start in 35 seasons under head coach Denny Douds as the Warriors host Cheyney at Eiler-Martin Stadium. Douds set the PSAC record with his 213th career victory in thrilling fashion last week against Shippensburg, as ESU overcame a 10-point deficit in the final six minutes in a 44-41 overtime win.

The milestones continue to pile up for Douds, who will coach his 200th game against a PSAC East opponent on Saturday. The Warriors are 127-71-1 (64 percent) in conference action under Douds and have won a share of nine PSAC East championships.

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg overcame a 10-point deficit in the final six minutes and Greg Knauss made a 29-yard field goal in overtime to give head coach Denny Douds the PSAC record with his 213th career victory, 44-41 over Shippensburg at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

He's East Stroudsburg coach Denny Douds, who is a victory away from having the most wins in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference history. He could claim the mark Saturday if his Warriors (3-0) beat Shippensburg at home.

THE MATCH-UP: Head coach Denny Douds, 212-140-3 in his 35th season at East Stroudsburg University, can become the winningest football coach in PSAC history as the Warriors host Shippensburg in the PSAC East opener for both schools. Douds tied Millersville's Gene Carpenter (1970-2000) for the conference record with a 49-28 win at Clarion last Saturday.

CLARION - Senior quarterback Tim Roken threw for 420 yards and five touchdowns and head coach Denny Douds earned his 212th career win to tie the PSAC record as East Stroudsburg University improved to 3-0 with a 49-28 win at Clarion on Saturday afternoon.

EAST STROUDSBURG - Linebacker Matt Freed has been named the d2football.com Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in the Warriors' 23-10 win over Gannon last Saturday. He is also the ABC Trophy, Inc. Athlete of the Week at East Stroudsburg University.

ESU Football Game Notes vs. Clarion

THE MATCH-UP: Head coach Denny Douds leads East Stroudsburg University into Clarion with an opportunity to earn his 212th career victory, matching Millersville's Gene Carpenter (1970-2000) for the most in PSAC history. Douds is 6-3 against the Golden Eagles, including a 49-4 victory at Clarion in the 1978 state championship game for his second outright PSAC title in his first five seasons in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Douds has guided the Warriors to seven 3-0 starts in his 34 seasons at ESU, including four times since 2000 (2000, 2003-05). Other 3-0 starts came in 1975, 1976 and 1994.

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University claimed its second straight PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week honor on Sunday, as redshirt sophomore outside linebacker Matt Freed has been recognized for his performance in the Warriors' 23-10 win over Gannon on Saturday night.

EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore cornerback David Castillo had a 64-yard interception return for a touchdown to break a 7-7 tie in the second quarter and senior quarterback Tim Roken and redshirt sophomore Jeff Giglio connected for a pair of touchdowns as East Stroudsburg University defeated Gannon 23-10 on a rain-soaked Saturday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

THE MATCH-UP: East Stroudsburg University hosts Gannon in their first-ever meeting a week after upsetting No. 25 Virginia Union, 14-11, in the first game on the new FieldTurf at Eiler-Martin Stadium last Thursday night. Gannon, which joined the PSAC as a full member along with Mercyhurst for the 2008 season, is playing its first game against a conference opponent in tonight's mandated crossover game.

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University senior linebacker Fred Rice has been named the PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Warriors' 14-11 win over No. 25 Virginia Union in the season opener on Thursday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

ESU Scores 14-11 Upset of No. 25 Virginia Union in Thursday Night Football Opener

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior Drew Stem caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from senior Tim Roken to give East Stroudsburg University a 14-11 lead midway through the fourth quarter, and the defense blanked the Panthers the rest of the way as the Warriors upset No. 25 Virginia Union in the first game on the newly-installed FieldTurf at Eiler-Martin Stadium in the 2008 season opener on Thursday night.

ESU Football Game Notes vs. Virginia Union

THE MATCH-UP: East Stroudsburg University opens the 2008 season against Virginia Union in the first-ever meeting between the two schools, and the Warriors' first match-up with a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) opponent. The Panthers, tied for No. 25 with Bloomsburg in the AFCA preseason poll, are the defending CIAA East Division champions and return 20 starters from last year's team that went 9-3, including a 58-51 loss to Tuskegee in the Pioneer Bowl. ESU is coming off a 3-6 season, its first losing mark since 1999, but brings back 13 starters (6 offense, 7 defense) and both kicking specialists from a year ago.

ESU Football Set to Host "Breakfast with the Warriors" with ESYA

EAST STROUDSBURG - The East Stroudsburg University football program will help celebrate the 35th anniversary of the East Stroudsburg Youth Association (ESYA) with its annual "Breakfast with the Warriors" prior to the team's first scrimmage on Saturday, August 16 at 9 a.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

EAST STROUDSBURG - The East Stroudsburg University football program has been picked to finish third in the PSAC East in the 2008 season according to a poll of the conference's coaches, it was announced on Monday at the PSAC football media day at Lock Haven.
