On Monday, Evan Prall was a high school football coach.
On Tuesday, Prall was an NFL player - again.
Prall, an East Stroudsburg University graduate and All-American receiver, was signed to the New York Jets practice squad, the same team that released him on the final cuts prior to the regular season.
"It's a business and months ago you learn it's a business," said Prall, who is one of eight practice squad members for the Jets (1-8). "One thing is for certain, every day I'll cherish this."
For the past two months Prall had been teaching health and physical education at Pocono Mountain East, as well as serving as an assistant football coach for the Cardinals.
Then on Monday, his phone rang.
"Monday was our last JV game versus (Pocono) West," Prall said of the 15-14 victory. "We're in the locker room collecting equipment when the Jets called."
Prall, who was to teach until January at Pocono Mountain East, said he faxed in his resignation and went to practice for the Jets on Tuesday, hoping the school district would understand his situation.
"They gave me an opportunity and I was thankful for that," Prall said.
Prall said he drove home, packed a bag and headed for New York. He's temporarily staying with Joe Simeone, a former ESU teammate, and Simeone's family near the Jets training facility on Long Island.
The receiver didn't want to sign a lease because there's no guarantee how long the Jets will keep him.
"I don't know what their plans are," Prall said, who also said he didn't fully know what the terms of his contract were.
The NFL minimum for players on the practice squad is $4,700 per week. He's been assigned No. 14 for now, but he wore No. 9 during summer camp with the Jets.
"A number is just a number," Prall said. "As long as I have a jersey."
Prall will ironically replace the injured Chris Davis, the receiver the Jets decided to keep over Prall on their practice squad months ago. Still, the Jets kept in touch with Prall's agent, telling him they still had interest in the 5-foot-11 receiver, who set many ESU and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference records before graduating in the spring.
Prall holds PSAC records in career yardage (4,093) and touchdowns (50) and was a Little All-America First Team pick as a senior.
His list of school records is lengthy. His 236 career receptions ranks first at ESU, and in his junior year of 2005 he set many season marks, including catches (88), receiving yards (1,766) and tied the school record with 23 touchdowns.
In 2006, he had five touchdowns versus Kutztown, 254 receiving yards versus Lock Haven, both ESU records, and tied a school record with 14 catches against California, Pa.
Prall spent Wednesday afternoon practicing the two-minute drill with backup quarterback Chad Pennington. The Jets have a bye this week and host Pittsburgh on Nov. 18.
Asked if he felt this was his last chance to make it in the NFL, Prall said he hoped to stay this time.
"I enjoy it too much," he said. "Hopefully I can possibly make a career out of this."
