SLIPPERY ROCK - Senior All-American Vanessa Andres finished 14th and sophomore Iuri Pinto 16th as the East Stroudsburg University cross country teams finished in the top 10 in the men's and women's races at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships at Coopers Lake Campground.
Andres ran a 23:05 in the six-kilometer course placing in the top 15 to earn All-PSAC honors for the third consecutive year. Julie Nemergut of Edinboro placed first in 21:48. Edinboro won the team title with 34 points, followed by Bloomsburg (97), Kutztown (100), Indiana University of Pennsylvania (113), Mansfield (130) and Shippensburg (155). East Stroudsburg was 10th with 246 points.
Junior Jess Chong was 51st in 24:34, while freshmen Jacklyn Young was 52nd in 24:38. Seniors Carol Bullen and Kelly Brennan, freshmen Carrie Anne Gerbino junior Lori Johnason, sophomore Amber Horn and freshmen Chrissy Greer finished 64th, 65th, 69th, 71st, 73rd and 84th respectively in the 108-person race.
In the men's race, Jeff Weiss of Slippery Rock won the eight-kilometer race in 24:54. Pinto ran a 26:11 to finish 16th.
Junior Matt Collins was 29th in 26:40 while junior James Coomber was 50th in 27:29 as the men's team finished eighth for the second consecutive year, with 216 points. Lock Haven won the men's race with 63 points, followed by Edinboro (70) and Shippensburg (110).
Juniors Jon Holland and Drew Nesbitt, senior Pete Miller and freshmen Patrick Carr all finished in the top 68 in the 109-person race.
Junior Anthony Femia finished 80th in 28:26 and Matt Frable 89th in 28:57.
The men's and women's team will run at Regionals Nov. 5 at Lock Haven. Nationals are Nov. 19 at Pomona Calif.
