Men's Results / Women's Results

MANSFIELD – Freshman Rose Mascoli placed third and senior Niki Pasquarella, sophomore Jonna Trexler and freshman Corinna Fitzgerald were all in the top seven as East Stroudsburg University beat defending PSAC champion Shippensburg to win the Mountaineer Invitational on Saturday at Mansfield.

Freshman Michael Pereira, sophomore Greg Laraia and junior Chris Zadroga had top-10 finishes for the Warriors men, who finished second out of six schools. The women’s race was 4K and the men’s competition was 6K over the new Lamb’s Creek Course at Mansfield.

Mascoli finished behind All-American Neely Spence and Abby Huber of Shippensburg but was the class of the rest of the field. Her time of 14:15.3 was two seconds better than Bloomsburg’s Andrea Kellock, and Pasquarella, Trexler and Fitzgerald were fifth through sixth. Freshman Bridget McCarron was 15th to complete the Warriors’ top five and ESU edged Shippensburg, ranked fourth in the Division II rankings, 36-39 for the team championship.

Pereira (19:10.3) and Laraia (19:10.6) were sixth and seventh for the men’s squad and Zadroga was ninth in 19:15.8. Senior Kyle Weir was 13th and freshman James Romano placed 15th to give ESU a six-point advantage (50-56) over Shippensburg. Lock Haven was first with 30 points led by the winner, Nick Hilton.

Mansfield will also host the NCAA Regional on November 7, the week after the PSAC Championships. The Warriors are back in action next weekend at the Don Cathcart Invitational in Salisbury, Md.
