MANSFIELD – Freshmen Frank Fezza and Mike Pereira and sophomore Greg Laraia all placed in the top 25 to earn All-Region honors and Fezza had the third-highest finish by an East Stroudsburg University freshman in school history at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Atlantic Regional, contested at Mansfield University’s Lamb’s Creek course on Saturday.
The Warriors’ men’s team finished fourth, its top performance since 1995 and the third-best all-time, while the women were 12th to move up five spots from last year’s showing in the region.
Fezza placed 15th with a time of 32:14, followed by Laraia (22nd, 32:35), Pereira (24th, 32:42), freshman Amr Aldeen (28th, 32:55) and senior Kyle Weir (29th, 32:59). Fezza’s performance by a freshman was topped only by Iuri Pinto, who was seventh in 2004, and Jack Cuvo, who placed ninth in 1985.
Freshmen Corinne Fitzgerald and Rose Mascoli and senior Niki Pasquarella turned in the top times for the ESU women. Fitzgerald was 40th in 23:09, Mascoli was 42nd and Pasquarella finished 43rd. Sophomore Jonna Trexler and freshman Alli Galvin rounded out the Warriors’ top five.
