EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior Andy Heimbach will receive the Jeff Dailey Memorial Scholarship for the East Stroudsburg University men's basketball program for the 2009-10 season, it was announced at the Warriors' annual golf outing at the Water Gap Country Club on August 7.
The scholarship was established last year in memory of Jeff Dailey, who was a student at ESU when he tragically passed away in an off-campus fire in November 2007. Funding for scholarship is provided through an endowment and contributions from the ESU men's basketball program and the Jeff Dailey Memorial Foundation.
A total of 72 golfers participated in the golf outing, with former ESU basketball players Rich Baker '04 and Stacy Perryman '97, along with Kevin Powlette, posting the day's low score with an 11-under par 61.
Baker was one of seven ESU men's basketball alumni who participated in the outing, along with Justin Scott '06, Trevin Panaia '97, John Lehman '72, Andy Martin '72, Bob Vandalen '72 and Paul Wentzel '71.
There was also strong support from the ESU campus community and a large contingent of golfers from the Jeff Dailey Memorial Foundation.
"I would like to thank everybody associated with this year's tournament, including all of the golfers and our hole sponsors, for their contributions to our program and the Jeff Dailey Memorial Foundation. Al Broda and his staff at the Water Gap Country Club, along with head pro Jeff Pietracatella and assistant pro Dustin McCormick, did an outstanding job in helping us put on this event," said head men's basketball coach Jeff Wilson.
Heimbach is the second recipient of the Jeff Dailey Memorial Scholarship, following Chris Bach, a first team All-PSAC East forward and Academic All-American who graduated last December with a degree in Sport Management and is pursuing his Master's degree in Exercise Science at ESU. Heimbach will enter his senior year with 774 points, including 160 three-pointers, two away from ESU's career mark.
Recipients of the Jeff Dailey Memorial Scholarship must be full-time students who will be selected in the spring semester by the Athletic Director, head coach of the men's basketball program, and the head of the Jeff Dailey Memorial Foundation. The award will be credited to the recipient's tuition and fees for the following academic year, half in the fall semester and half in the spring semester. The recipient of the scholarship must be in good academic and social standing at ESU.
