EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior forward Chris Bach has added first team All-PSAC East accolades to his resume of accomplishments during his career at East Stroudsburg University, it was announced Wednesday.
Bach (Levittown/Harry S Truman), who was the first ESU basketball player named to the Academic All-America team in school history last month, was a preseason all-conference selection entering the year and a member of the second team last season.
He averaged 19.0 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game as a senior to complete his career at ESU than began with averages of 4.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2006-07.
Since then, the 31-year old Bach worked steadily to improve his game and was the Warriors' leading scorer and rebounder (15.0 ppg, 8.8 rpg) during PSAC East action as a junior. He went to the next level as a senior, establishing himself as the division's premier post player, and was the only player to rank in the top six in the PSAC in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.
Bach was 10th in Division II with 166 made free throws, a total that ranks fourth in a single season in ESU history. He shot 80.2 percent from the line as a senior after entering with a career mark of 67.2 percent and had five games with at least 10 makes. He was 16-for-20 and scored 30 points on January 3 at Clarion, then went 14-of-16 while scoring a career-high 34 points two weeks later at Shippensburg.
Bach opened the year with 23 points in 21 minutes vs. PSU-Schuylkill and had 26 points and 12 rebounds the next time out at the University of the Sciences, setting the tone for a season in which he scored at least 16 points in all but six of the Warriors' 27 games and hit 20 points on 10 occasions.
In the final game of his career at West Chester, Bach pulled down 21 rebounds, the most in a game at ESU in 20 years, and had his ninth double-double of the season.
He scored 18 points and went over 1,000 for his career in a win at Millersville on February 25, the same day that he was named an Academic All-American. Bach scored 72 points during his freshman year (1996-97) at Philadelphia University and 944 points in his three years at ESU. He ranks fourth in school history with 111 career blocked shots and fifth with a 54.0 field goal percentage, and his 529 rebounds and 246 made free throws are just outside the top 10.
Bach has earned numerous honors for academics and leadership, a list that may grow over the next two months. He graduated summa cum laude (3.82 GPA) with his bachelor's degree in Sport Management in December and is currently taking graduate courses in Exercise Science.
He is the president of ESU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, participated in the NCAA Leadership Conference last year, was a PSAC Winter Top 10 recipient and named to "Who's Who" of American Colleges and Universities. He has also been nominated for the Coach John Wooden Citizenship Cup and the V Foundation's "Comeback Award".
