ESU Community Mourns Loss of Jeff Dailey (Nov. 9, 2007)
EAST STROUDSBURG - Jeff Dailey, an East Stroudsburg University student who lost his life in an off-campus fire on November 8, 2007, was posthumously inducted into the Lehigh Valley Basketball Hall of Fame on Thursday night during a banquet at Freedom High School in Bethlehem.
Dailey, the all-time leading scorer at Notre Dame of Green Pond High School, transferred to ESU in January 2007 from Cabrini College and participated in workouts with the men's basketball program last spring, and was a close friend to many members of the team.
The Warriors dedicated the 2007-08 season to Dailey's memory by wearing his number 20 with the initials JD on the back of their warm-up shirts. ESU finished the season with an 18-10 record, including a 13-game winning streak, and played in the PSAC tournament for the third straight year.
Jeff's parents, Bob and Jane Dailey, accepted the award on their son's behalf on Thursday. ESU's players presented Bob Dailey with the game ball after they secured their playoff berth with a win over Mansfield on February 27 at Koehler Fieldhouse.
Dailey, who ranks second in Northampton County history with 1,742 career points, was one of four Hall of Fame inductees. He led Notre Dame to 76 wins during his high school career, including the District XI AA title in 2003.
During his senior year in 2004, Dailey was the Colonial League MVP, led his team to the AA state semifinal and was a second team All-State selection while setting a Lehigh Valley record with 126 three-point field goals. His jersey was retired at Notre Dame in December 2004.
He was the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year at Cabrini as a freshman and was a member of the All-PAC team as a sophomore before transferring to ESU.
Head coach Jeff Wilson, senior Josh Wentz of Freedom, junior Chris Bach and sophomore Andy Heimbach of Allentown Central Catholic represented the ESU basketball program at the banquet.
Tom Brennan, the former head coach at the University of Vermont and an ESPN basketball analyst, was the keynote speaker.
