MILLERSVILLE - East Stroudsburg University suffered its third straight two-point loss, and its second overtime defeat of the week, as defending PSAC champion Millersville outlasted the Warriors for a 68-66 win on Saturday at Pucillo Gymnasium.
Junior forward Chris Bach scored a career-high 26 points for the Warriors, who won 13 straight games before falling 56-54 to West Chester a week ago. Since then, they lost 83-81 in overtime at Mansfield on Wednesday, and came up just short again on Saturday at Millersville (14-6, 3-2).
ESU (13-6, 2-3) rallied from a 55-47 deficit with five minutes left to force overtime when Bach hit two free throws to tie the game at 60-all with 34 seconds left.
Bach scored ESU's first four points in overtime and the Warriors led 66-63 with 1:53 left following two free throws by sophomore guard Dawud Lyons.
Millersville's Reggie Bates cut the margin to one with a pair of free throws, and Charlie Parker gave the Marauders a 67-66 lead with a jumper with 35 seconds to go. Senior forward Josh Wentz missed a jumper and fouled RayQuan Miles with seven seconds on the clock.
Miles made the first and missed the second and Aaron Pinckney pulled down the rebound for ESU, but Pat Fleury couldn't get the game-winning three-pointer to go down at the buzzer.
Bach had eight of ESU's first 10 points and the Warriors opened a 13-7 advantage on a three-pointer by Wentz early in the first half. Millersville used a 15-4 run to take control and led 32-28 at halftime.
The Marauders led by as many as nine points in the second half, but Wentz hit two three's in the final five minutes, with the second pulling ESU within 60-58 with 1:23 to play.
Parker missed on a follow attempt and Bates missed a jumper in the final minute, Fleury grabbed the rebound and Bach was fouled, and the free throws tied the score at 60-all. Millersville didn't get a shot up at the other end, as Lyons stole the ball from Bernard Brown with one second left and the Warriors went to overtime for the second straight game.
Wentz was 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from the three-point line for 13 points, and matched his season-high with eight rebounds.
Bach pulled down 10 boards for his second career double-double, and is averaging 21.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in the two games since Channon Easley has been sidelined with an injury. He had 17 points and eight rebounds while playing all 45 minutes at Mansfield, and was on the floor for 38 minutes against Millersville.
Parker scored 16 points and Bernard Brown had 15 points and 13 rebounds for Millersville. The Warriors held Bates, the second-leading scorer in the conference, to six points on 2-of-13 shooting from the field.
ESU will return home to host Kutztown on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in a pivotal PSAC East game. The Golden Bears have a 4-0 conference record entering tonight's match-up with Cheyney.
