Justin Potts enters his eighth season as the top assistant coach at East Stroudsburg University.

Potts has served alongside Jeff Wilson since Wilson was named head coach prior to the 2002-03 season. He has been ESU’s recruiting coordinator since arriving on campus and has been instrumental in helping the Warriors return to the top of the PSAC East standings. ESU made three straight playoff appearances for the first time in more than a decade from 2006-08, and has won 68 games over the last four seasons.

In addition to his duties as recruiting coordinator, Potts assists with player development and scouting. He has coached All-PSAC East selections Rich Baker, Anthony Ross, Danny Hargrove, Darron Bradley, Chris Bach and Channon Easley and also serves as the co-director of Warrior Basketball camps.

Prior to joining Wilson on the sidelines at ESU, Potts served as an assistant coach at Moravian College, his alma mater, where his responsibilities included recruiting and summer camps.

Potts graduated from Moravian in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in English, and earned his master’s degree in Exercise Science from ESU in the summer of 2007. Potts resides in Northampton, Pa. with his wife, Caroline.

Jay Garrels

Jay Garrels joins the Warriors’ men’s basketball program as the graduate assistant coach for the 2009-2010 season. His primary responsibilities include film exchange of all opponents, coordinating opponents’ scouting, community service, alumni relations and newsletters, day camp assistant director, academic development and monitoring of study halls, student-athlete recruitment, practice and game planning.

Prior to his arrival at ESU, Garrels was the head basketball coach at the Storm King School in Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. After taking over a 1-15 squad, Garrels led his squad to consecutive winning seasons and earned two playoff berths. He also served as the school’s Assistant Dean of Students and Dean of Residential Life, and taught American Government and Geometry.

Garrels played high school basketball at Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J. for ESU alumnus Joe Mantegna, and played alongside current NBA stars Luol Deng, Charlie Villanueva and Royal Ivey. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Exercise Science.

Justin Scott

Justin Scott is in his third year as a member of the ESU coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach after completing his playing career for the Warriors. He received a Master’s degree in Management and Leadership with a concentration in Sport Management from ESU in 2008.

He currently serves as the Coordinator for Special Projects, Diversity and Social Justice Education in the ESU Athletic Department. In this capacity, he is responsible for providing support for ESU’s administration and coaching staff in recruiting and retaining diverse student-athletes and coaches, implementing social justice education programs and assisting with athletic operations.

Scott started 27 games at guard for ESU as a senior in 2006-07 and was third on the team with 64 assists and fourth with 29 steals. He played in all 28 games for the Warriors as a junior after transferring to ESU from Bloomsburg University, where he played his first two seasons. A native of Philadelphia, Scott was a member of the All-Public League team at Engineering & Science High School.
