PEORIA, Ariz. - Former East Stroudsburg University All-American Mark Angelo went 1-for-3 with a double and scored a run as the Seattle Mariners' affiliate won the Arizona Rookie League championship with a 3-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night.

Angelo (Quakertown/Quakertown) hit a leadoff double in the sixth inning, moved to third on a balk and scored on a single to give the Mariners a 3-0 lead. Pitchers Chris Kessinger (7.0 IP) and Jeff Breedlove (2.0 IP) combined to shut down the Giants and give the Mariners the championship.

Angelo hit .272 (34-for-125) with two doubles, a triple and a home run in the regular season for the Mariners, which won both the first half and second half championships of the Arizona League's West Division and finished the season with a 33-22 record.

He posted a .385 on-base percentage and had one of the best walk-to-strikeout ratios (19 walks, 25 strikeouts) in the Arizona League. Angelo scored 16 runs and had 14 RBI while playing in 39 games between left field and first base.

He hit .286 in July and .296 with a .406 on-base percentage in August after a slow start to the season, going 2-for-15 in five games in June. He was particularly effective with runners on base, posting a .344 batting average and .432 on-base percentage with 22 hits and eight walks in 64 at bats.

Angelo was the second baseball All-American and second player to be selected in the Major League Baseball Draft in school history when he was drafted by the Mariners in the 44th round following his only season at ESU.

He was a third team ABCA All-American at third base after hitting .421 and setting five single season records for the Warriors with 77 hits, 21 doubles, 12 home runs, 34 extra-base hits and 136 total bases. He had a .481 on-base percentage and .783 slugging percentage, compiled 58 RBI and 57 runs while leading ESU to a school-record 32 wins in 2009.

Angelo was a three-year letterwinner and an All-Patriot League selection as a senior at Bucknell before coming to ESU to use his final year of collegiate eligibility as a graduate student in Secondary Education and Mathematics. He was the starting first baseman on Bucknell's 2008 Patriot League championship team and was also an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection for the Bison.
