EAST STROUDSBURG - The East Stroudsburg University baseball program held its first-ever Red and Black series, a five-game set to wrap up fall practice at Mitterling Field.
Two of the Warriors' seniors, Chad Schlegel and Kevin Thompson, were selected as captains of the two squads and drafted their teams last week. The Red team won three straight games to win the series 3-1.
Game 1: Black 11, Red 2 Thompson (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI) and freshman Brandon Snyder (1-3, HR, 4 RBI) led the offense for the black team. Junior Jeremy Gigliotti was the winning pitcher, while graduate student Jason Colletti took the loss. Junior Kenny Serfass was 2-for-2 for the red squad.
Game 2: Red 7, Black 1 The red squad leveled the series with a standout pitching performance from freshman Paul Glenn. Schlegel was 2-for-2 with two runs and sophomore Bryce Muth was 2-for-3 with a double. Senior Mike Bortz was 2-for-3 with a double for the black team, and junior Steve Prazenka was the pitcher of record.
Game 3: Red 11, Black 6 Senior Mark Angelo was 2-for-2 with a long home run to give the red team a 2-1 lead. Glenn was once again the winning pitcher, with freshman Andy Noga taking the loss.
Game 4: Red 11, Black 6 Angelo was 2-for-4 with a double and Serfass homered for the winners, and senior Mike Walker earned the victory. Bortz was 2-for-3, tripled and scored twice for the black team and sophomore Tom Admire went 2-for-4 at the plate while taking the loss on the mound.
