PSAC Release

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University junior outfielder Mike Bortz is a member of the All-PSAC East baseball first team after leading the Warriors in seven offensive categories, including home runs, RBI and runs, during the 2008 season.

Bortz (Wind Gap/Pen Argyl), who was the PSAC East Player of the Week twice in the final three weeks of the season, had seven home runs, 31 RBI and 32 runs in 36 games as the Warriors' starting centerfielder.

Bortz also led the team with 20 extra-base hits, 79 total bases, 12 stolen bases and a .622 slugging percentage. He was second with a .339 batting average in his first season at ESU and hit safely in 16 of the final 17 games, including each of the last 10 contests.

He is one of six players in school history to hit at least seven home runs in a season despite missing 12 games due to injury, including all but one of ESU's 11-game trip to Florida. He was also one of the top defensive outfielders in the conference and had 67 putouts and two assists in centerfield.

This marks the third straight season that ESU has had a player named to the All-PSAC East first team. Josh Butler and Jacob DeBoer were on the first team each of the last two seasons.
