Box Scores - W 9-1, L 6-4

TAKOMA PARK, Md. - Senior Dave Boyer improved to 4-1 on the mound with a 9-1 victory in the first game before Columbia Union won the nightcap 6-4 in non-conference baseball on Friday afternoon.

The Warriors scored in all but one inning in the opener to support Boyer, who earned the 15th win of his career.

Junior 1B/DH Mike Dunkailo was 5-for-8 in the doubleheader, going 3-for-4 with two runs in game one, and had two hits, including a two-run double in the second game.

ESU scored one run in the first and third innings before breaking the game open with four runs in the fourth. Dunkailo started things with a single, junior Kevin Thompson was hit by a pitch and sophomore Brendan O'Connor singled to load the bases, and Dunkailo scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Edwin Padua.

Junior Chad Schlegel and sophomore Anthony Clemens both reached on errors to push two runs across, and Schlegel scored the final run with his second steal of the inning.

The Warriors added single runs in each of the final three innings on run-scoring hits by Thompson, Clemens and freshman Tom Admire.

Boyer gave up a solo home run that tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first but shut Columbia Union out from that point. He allowed six hits and lowered his ERA to 2.67 with his second complete game of the season.

In the second game, Schlegel doubled to lead off the top of the first and Sheaffer doubled to bring him in, but ESU wouldn't score again until the seventh after Columbia Union built a 6-1 lead.

Dunkailo doubled to score Clemens and Sheaffer and Thompson had a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 6-4, but the Pioneers got out of the inning to end the game.

Sophomore Steve Prazenka got the start for ESU, giving up four earned runs in 4.2 innings, and took his first loss of the season. Senior Richard Larson got the final four outs and gave up two unearned runs in the sixth.

ESU will return to action on Saturday with a trip to Wilmington University (Del.) for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
