EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University centerfielder Mike Bortz has been named the PSAC East Baseball Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks, the conference office announced Monday.

Bortz (Wind Gap/Pen Argyl) posted a .400 batting average (10-for-25) and had a hit in all seven games as the Warriors went 4-3 to finish the 2008 season.

The junior had four doubles and one triple among his 10 hits and had five RBI, five runs scored and two stolen bases last week.

Bortz closed the season with a 10-game hitting streak and hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games. He had at least one hit in 28 of the 36 games in which he appeared this season and missed 12 games due to injury.

He finished second on the team with a .339 batting average and led the Warriors in seven offensive categories - slugging percentage (.622), home runs (7), extra-base hits (20), total bases (79), runs batted in (31), runs scored (32) and stolen bases (12).

His seven home runs are tied for third in a single season in school history, and his slugging percentage ranks sixth all-time at ESU.
