EAST STROUDSBURG - Jacob DeBoer, East Stroudsburg University's career hits leader and a three-time All-PSAC East second baseman, has signed a contract to play for the River City Rascals in the Frontier League.
DeBoer (Wind Gap/Pen Argyl) graduated in 2007 as the school record holder with 224 hits and 66 stolen bases, and ranks second in career doubles and runs scored. He is currently a volunteer assistant coach for the Warriors this season.
"Playing at ESU gave me a great experience to be able to compete in a high level conference in the PSAC," DeBoer said. "I'm really excited to continue my baseball career and want to make the most of the opportunity to play professionally."
DeBoer was a first team All-PSAC East selection in each of his last two seasons and was named to the All-North Atlantic Region second team as a senior by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
The ABCA also named DeBoer to its Rawlings Gold Glove team last year after he posted a fielding percentage of better than .960 over his final two seasons.
DeBoer started all 184 games in his career at ESU between shortstop and second base and is tied for the school record in career total bases with 297. He also ranks in the top 10 in career batting average (.341), triples, extra-base hits and walks.
The Frontier League, an independent professional baseball league, plays in 12 cities across seven Midwestern states. The River City Rascals are based in O'Fallon, Missouri and will play 93 regular season games, beginning on May 24.
