SLIPPERY ROCK - Shippensburg scored two unearned runs in the first inning, and Andrew Burke backed it up with a complete game four-hitter to lead the Red Raiders to a 4-1 win over East Stroudsburg University on Friday in the PSAC Baseball Tournament.
The loss knocks ESU out of the tournament with a 1-2 record, as the Warriors fell 7-1 to California in the first round before coming back to defeat Kutztown, the top-ranked team in Division II, 9-5 on Thursday night. ESU was making its first PSAC Baseball Tournament appearance since 1985.
Jeremy Gigliotti, who took the loss for the Warriors, allowed just three unearned runs in five innings. Steve Prazenka (2 IP) and Michael Walker (1 IP) finished the game on the mound for ESU.
Burke struck out 11 and walked five for Shippensburg, which advanced to the championship round on Saturday. Tyler Redick (3-for-5) and Kasey Kuhns (4-for-4) combined for seven of Shippensburg's 10 hits, all singles.
Kyle Shaeffer broke up Burke's no-hitter with an infield single to lead off the fifth. ESU broke through with its lone run in the sixth as Jacob De Boer drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on a single to left by Josh Butler. That run cut the deficit to 3-1, but the Warriors wouldn't get any closer.
