EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University men’s and women’s soccer programs will participate in the “Red Card Cancer” program when they host Shippensburg on Tuesday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Both teams will wear t-shirts during warm-ups that feature the “Red Card Cancer” logo, and donations raised at the game will be given to the American Cancer Society.
“Red Card Cancer”, an initiative started by Bloomsburg head men’s soccer coach Paul Payne, is in its first year with a goal of raising awareness through the soccer coaching community in the fight against cancer. Shippensburg held its own event on October 6 and all PSAC schools have been encouraged to participate.
The Warriors’ women’s team will begin the night with a 5 p.m. start against Shippensburg, with both teams looking to make a dent in the PSAC East standings with two weeks left in the regular season.
ESU (10-4-1) has won five straight games and is 4-3-1 in the conference with four games remaining, while Shippensburg enters with a 5-7-2 (2-4-2 PSAC East) record. The Warriors have made the PSAC semifinals in each of the last two seasons.
The men’s game is slated for 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women’s contest. The Warriors are currently in third place in the PSAC East with three games to go and must move into the second spot to secure their fourth straight PSAC playoff appearance.
