EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University will hold several events to "Think Pink" in the fight against breast cancer, beginning with the Warriors' field hockey and women's soccer games during Homecoming Weekend.
The women's volleyball team will also participate later this month, with all of the proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation. One thousand pink ribbons will be given out at ESU's athletic events throughout the month of October, with one dollar of the admission price being contributed towards the Warriors' fundraising efforts.
The field hockey team will be donning pink jerseys for this Saturday's game against Kutztown at 12:30 p.m. The Warriors will also be wearing pink wristbands and socks during the game that have been donated by Schuylkill Valley Sports. Pink t-shirts will be available for purchase at the contest to benefit the cause.
The ESU women's soccer team will participate during their game on Sunday against Slippery Rock. The team will wear pink warm-up shirts and shoe laces for their game, which begins at 11:00 a.m. Pink shoe laces will also be made available for purchase.
The Warriors' women's volleyball team will also be wearing pink warm-up shirts for matches during their home tournament on October 24 and 25 at Koehler Fieldhouse. The team will also wear pink ribbons and pink shoe laces during their games. There will be a recognition table located inside the fieldhouse for those who have been affected by breast cancer and pink t-shirts and shoe laces will also be sold at the site.
The women's volleyball team is also participating in "Dig for the Cure", an initiative through the Susan G. Komen Foundation, during its match with Bowie State on October 24. The Warriors' players are seeking donations for a flat amount, or an amount for each dig the team records in the match. The funds obtained at the women's field hockey and women's soccer matches will culminate in a check presentation to Dolly Woody, the Executive Director of the Northeast Pennsylvania affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, at halftime of the Warriors football game on October 18. There will be a separate donation made with the funds raised at the volleyball games.
