PSAC releases (men / women)

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University's men's and women's basketball programs will both be looking for their fourth consecutive appearances in the PSAC tournament led by preseason all-conference selections Chris Bach and Jackie Yandrisevits, the conference announced Thursday as part of the statewide basketball media day.

ESU and California are the only two schools in the 16-school conference to qualify for both the men's and women's postseason tournament for three straight years. The 2008-09 season brings Gannon and Mercyhurst into the PSAC as members of the western division, with Shippensburg moving to the East to create two eight-team divisions.

Yandrisevits (Wind Gap/Nazareth), a two-time first team All-PSAC East selection, was the top scorer in the East with 16.0 points per game last season and also led ESU in rebounding at 6.4 per game. She enters her senior season with 1,240 career points, within reach of the school record of 1,733 held by Claudine Simard (1988-92), and is currently in the top 10 in school history in six categories.

Bach (Levittown/Harry S Truman) was named to the All-PSAC East second team last year after ranking in the top 10 in the conference in three categories - blocked shots (5th, 1.6 per game), field goal percentage (6th, 56.2 per game) and rebounding (9th, 7.4 per game). He was ESU's top scorer and rebounder in conference action, averaging 15.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per night.

Both players represented the Warriors on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II team, and ESU had three of the four PSAC student-athletes that were recognized for their academic success last season.

The ESU men, led by seventh-year head coach Jeff Wilson, were third in the preseason coaches poll, following Kutztown and Millersville. Cheyney was the pick for the fourth and final playoff spot, with Mansfield, Shippensburg, West Chester and Bloomsburg rounding out the list.

The Warriors return three starters in Bach, senior guard Pat Fleury and junior guard Andy Heimbach. Fleury led the PSAC with 5.1 assists per game last season and Heimbach made 65 three-pointers, two short of the school record. Seniors Dawud Lyons, a guard, and Aaron Pinckney, a forward, are projected starters and are among ESU's nine returning letterwinners.

On the women's side, the Warriors were fifth behind preseason favorite Shippensburg, Millersville, West Chester and Kutztown. Bloomsburg, Cheyney and Mansfield were sixth through eighth. Juliene Simpson is entering her seventh season as head coach at ESU.

Yandrisevits is joined by three other returning starters for the ESU women - senior guard Keri Cahill, junior forward DeAnna Rayam and junior guard Mel Villano. Sophomore Kristen Murray will also be a key contributor in the backcourt.

Kutztown's Stephen Dennis and David Ben, Millersville's Reggie Bates, West Chester's Kenneth St. George and Cheyney's Tyrone Smith joined Bach on the men's preseason All-PSAC East team.

Yandrisevits, Millersville's Gladine St. Julien, West Chester's Dana Weems, Shippensburg's Lauren Beckley, Bloomsburg's Colleen Kegerreis and Cheyney's Stephanie Orji were all selected to the women's all-conference team.
