EAST STROUDSBURG - Cross country and track and field standout Iuri Pinto and PSAC East women's soccer player of the year Brittany Staub were honored as the Senior Athletes of the Year at the East Stroudsburg University Athletic Awards Banquet on Sunday, May 4 at the Shawnee Inn.

Pinto (Plainsboro, N.J./South River) earned six PSAC championships in track and field and was a four-time member of the All-PSAC cross country team during his career for the Warriors.

He won consecutive 1500m outdoor titles and won the conference title in the indoor mile as a junior, and was a member of three straight Distance Medley Relay championship teams. He holds school records in the mile, 3000m and 5000m outdoors and the 5000m indoors, and also set two course records during cross country season.

Staub (Levittown/Neshaminy) was selected as the top player in the PSAC East last season after leading the ESU women's soccer program to its first PSAC semifinal appearance since 1998. She is the second player in school history to be named to the All-PSAC East first team for four straight seasons and started 75 games at defender during her career.

Softball pitcher Kristen Halvorsen and wrestler Sean Carr received the Alumni Association Scholar-Athlete Awards for their athletic and academic contributions to ESU.

Halvorsen (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall Central) has a 3.91 grade-point average in Exercise Science and will graduate with school records for career innings pitched, games and games started. She is tied for first in school history with 15 shutouts and ranks second with 42 career victories, and was a key contributor to two PSAC tournament and Mid-Atlantic Regional teams at ESU.

Carr (Whitehall/Whitehall) owns a 3.91 GPA in Health and Physical Education Teacher Certification and was one of the Warriors top wrestlers during his career. He was second on the team with a 23-11 record as a senior and placed third at the PSAC tournament and in the top eight at the EIWA championships last season.

The David Carlyon Award for athletic training went to Amy Jones and Nathan Roberts, and the fourth annual John Pooley Sportsmanship Award was presented to Jason Shegda, a junior forward on the men's soccer team.
