EAST STROUDSBURG - Men's basketball point guard Anthony Ross and field hockey All-American Nicole Kocis picked up the Senior Male and Female Athletes of the Year at East Stroudsburg University's 47th annual Athletic Awards Banquet on Sunday night.

The annual event was held in the Keystone Room on the ESU campus. A crowd of approximately 250 people celebrated the 2004-05 Warrior accomplishments and outstanding seniors of the year.

The senior athletes of the year were voted on by the ESU athletic staff and coaches. Ross finished a solid two seasons for the Warriors by averaging 10.3 points and 4.3 assists per contest. The guard from Allentown, Pa. was the floor leader for the past two years and led ESU to within one game of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs this year.

Kocis (Buckingham, Pa.) finished her four-year field hockey and lacrosse career as an all-american. She earned all-american field hockey status and All-PSAC second team acclaim this season.

The other two most prestigious awards on the annual night were the Alumni Academic Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes. Football's Matt Rapa (Kresgeville, Pa.) and Niki Cox from the women's basketball squad took home the two academic honors. Rapa was a four-year letterman and key defensive figure this past season in helping the Warriors reach the NCAA Division II Elite Eight on the gridiron. He was second in tackles and finished his career as a two-time Academic All-District II selection. Rapa will graduate next week and attend law school.

Cox (Harrisburg, Pa.) has the highest grade point average in her biochemistry major. She led the women's hoops team in scoring each of the past three years and finished as the fifth all-time leading scoring in school history. Cox plans to continue her education and go back to ESU for graduate school next year.

The ESU softball team earned the inaugural John Pooley Fair Play/Sportsmanship Award for demomstrating exemplary sportsmanship during the season. Cramer Building Supply and long-time ESU athletic backer Mike Carmella was honored as Distinguished Service Award winner. Pat Mullally of Dansbury Depot will be receive a Distinguished Service Award of his own at the final Warrior Athletic Luncheon in his restaurant at 12 noon on Tuesday.
