EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University student-athletes Chris Bach, Monika Fogelsanger and Jackie Yandrisevits are members of the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II basketball teams, it was announced Thursday.
Bach (Levittown/Harry S Truman) is a member of the men's second team, Fogelsanger (State College/State College) is on the women's second team, and Yandrisevits (Wind Gap/Nazareth) is on the women's third team.
Their selections give ESU three of the four PSAC student-athletes named to the 2008 Academic All-District II teams, joining Clarion's Ashley Grimm, who was a first team selection.
Bach, a Sport Management major with a 3.81 grade-point average, was the only PSAC men's basketball player among the 11 honorees. The Warriors' 29-year old captain is averaging 10.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks while starting all 20 games this year.
Bach's leadership helped ESU to a 13-game winning streak, the second-longest in school history, earlier this season. He scored 23 points and sent the game into double-overtime in an 88-85 (2OT) win vs. Cheyney and has two double-doubles, three 20-point games and four 10-rebound games in the last month.
Fogelsanger has a 3.88 GPA in Psychology and has been a four-year starter for the Warriors and a key member of two PSAC East regular season championship teams.
She is averaging a career-high 9.5 points per game this season and has more than 700 points and 500 rebounds in her career at ESU. Fogelsanger will be in the school record book for rebounds and blocks and is one of the top free throw shooters in school history, with an 84.0 percent mark over the last two seasons.
Yandrisevits became the 12th 1,000-point scorer in school history earlier this year and has been one of the top players in the PSAC since she entered the conference as the East Rookie of the Year in 2005-06. She was a first team All-PSAC East selection as a sophomore and leads the East in scoring with 15.5 points per game this season.
She has compiled a 3.53 GPA in Health and Physical Education through her first five semesters at ESU.
The selections give ESU five Academic All-District selections to date this year, including Danny Drago (men's soccer) and Sam Shuman (football).
The Academic All-District teams are voted on by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association). Nominees must have at least a 3.2 cumulate GPA and be a starter or key reserve. The first team members are candidates for Academic All-America honors.
