ESU Cheer Program East Stroudsburg University's cheerleading program consists of up to 25 members. If alternates are chosen, they are expected to come to every practice and game. They will be used in the event a team member is ill or no longer on the team. Members are required to fundraise. Each individual is responsible for the amount of money they need to raise. If fundraisers aren't sold, the individual is responsible for paying the money in full on a given date. The cheerleaders participate with the dance team, band, mascot and others. Participation with pep rallies, community events, fundraisers, and other special activities are mandatory. The cheerleaders cheer for both football and basketball. Cheerleaders are required to cheer for both men and women basketball games. These are double headers. Only home games are required and possibly post season playoffs. ESU cheerleaders do not compete, nor do we participate in cheerleading competitions. We are solely here for the spirit of cheerleading and our job is to energize the spectators and players. Season begins for cheerleading in late August and goes two seasons through the end of March. Practices are held 2-3 times per week beginning at 5:30 AM lasting till approximately 7:30 AM. We have tumbling/stunting mats that require full team effort to unroll, re-roll and store at each practice. A conditioning routine is incorporated at the start of each practice. Tryouts are usually held in April for returners and other ESU students. No one is guaranteed a position on the team. Incoming freshmen and/or transfers for Fall will send in a DVD or video with specifics mentioned on the website. Check for updated information. Tumbling is highly encouraged, but not mandatory in order to make the team.
Team members are required to purchase team apparel after the first team meeting. Please click here for more information.
Physicals, pre-screens and health forms are required for each interested candidate before tryouts begin.
Everyone is welcome to tryout and join ESU's cheerleading team. Good luck to those interested candidates.
