It is important to understand that Cheerleading is a year-long commitment at ESU. You will be expected to follow the rules and requirements of the squad for the entire year. Please make sure that other activities, including jobs, do not conflict with Cheerleading.

East Stroudsburg University does not provide scholarships for Cheerleading.

The size of the squad will be determined by the Coach at the time of auditions. One Co-Ed squad, if males are interested, will be chosen for the year.

Squad members must remain in good academic standing within the University for the entire year. Each member must also be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours in order to remain eligible.

The cheerleaders will be chosen by a panel of judges.

Each candidate will be given a number to put on their shirts. This number will identify you to the judges.

Tryouts are closed to the public.

The Cheerleading tryout process will include: (See tryout requirement link)

Following tryouts, the Coach will give information for those who made the team. A personal email will be sent out with specific information regarding where and when to meet for uniforms, first practice and any other housekeeping information.

On the day of tryouts, you will arrive promptly. All candidates will wear black shorts, plain white tee, athletic or cheer shoes, and white, no show socks. All females must have their hair pinned out of their face up in a ponytail. No jewelry may be worn.

Upon selection to the squad, each candidate will be expected to make payment arrangements with the Coach at the uniform meeting. Cheerleaders will be expected to pay for their practice attire and other needed items from Schuylkill Valley Sports, located in the Stroud Mall. The total cost of the cheerleading package is $237.50 and can be found by clicking here.

Each candidate will be evaluated with a small group during the cheer portion of the tryouts. Judges will be looking for technique and sharpness as well as voice projection and overall performance quality. Each candidate will be evaluated with a stunt group during the stunting portion of tryouts. Judges will be looking for accurate skills performance.

Each candidate chosen for the squad will be required to review and understand the constitution. Please read over this prior to tryouts. A link to this form can be found on the web page.

We are excited about your interest in ESU Cheerleading and look forward to meeting you soon.
