EAST STROUDSBURG - Greg Knauss made a school-record 53-yard field goal, and Iuri Pinto finished fourth in a field of more than 200 athletes at the NYU Cross Country Invitational to earn the ABC Trophy, Inc. Athlete of the Week award for Sept. 18.

Knauss made three field goals as ESU fell 38-23 to IUP on Saturday in the first night football game in Eiler-Martin Stadium history. He highlighted the night with a 53-yard field goal at the end of the first half to give the Warriors a 20-17 lead. The kick broke the previous record of 50 yards, which was set by Todd McNamee in 1988.

Pinto finished the five-mile course at Van Cortland Park in New York City in 26:04, just 19 seconds behind the winner. A five-time PSAC champion in track and field, Pinto won the mile (outdoor) and 1500 (indoor) last year and is an All-Region and All-America candidate in cross country during his senior year.

Each week ABC Trophy, Inc., of Stroudsburg awards an ESU Athlete of the Week. The selection is announced Tuesday and each student receives a red and silver plaque.
