EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior basketball player Channon Easley and senior track and field athlete Leslie Martin are the ABC Trophy, Inc. Athletes of the Week at East Stroudsburg University.
Easley (Philadelphia/Friends Central) is being honored for his play over the last two weeks for the Warriors' men's basketball team, which has won 10 straight games and hasn't lost since Nov. 27.
Easley is averaging 13 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks per game since ESU returned to action in 2008. He leads a defense that has held seven of its last 10 opponents under 60 points and is second in the PSAC with 2.5 blocked shots per game.
Martin (Hudson Falls, N.Y./Hudson Falls) won the pentathlon at the PSAC East Challenge last weekend at Kutztown. She placed in the top four in four of the five events, including a second-place finish in the 800m run in the day's final event to overtake C.J. Jacob of West Chester by 21 points.
Martin was an All-American twice last year, placing fifth in the indoor high jump and eighth in the heptathlon. She also competed in the high jump at the outdoor championships last spring.
ABC Trophy, Inc. awards an athlete of the week to an outstanding student-athlete each week at ESU. Each recipient is presented with a red and silver plaque.
