EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University wrestler Shane Mallory has been named the ABC Trophy, Inc. Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Wilkes Open, where he finished second in the 174-pound weight class.

Mallory (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) won his first four matches by a combined score of 36-10 before falling to Justin Herbert of Franklin & Marshall.

Mallory earned a 13-3 major decision over Steve Makin of Pitt-Johnstown in the second round, blanked Ryan Mergen of Army 7-0 in the third round and defeated Travis Creagan of Columbia 11-5 in the semifinals.

The redshirt sophomore opened the season with a second-place showing at the ESU Open, where he posted a 6-1 record. He has a 13-7 mark this season and is one of several Warriors who are expected to contend for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, which will be held in St. Louis in March.

ESU will return to dual action on Sunday at Princeton with matches against Princeton and Stanford.
