Track & FieldFor the second time this semester, East Stroudsburg University track and field standout Dan Gale has been named the ABC Trophy Inc. Athlete of the Week. Gale was chosen for the honor for the week ending May 2. Gale (Heilserville, N.J./Millville) won the collegiate division of the javelin at the Penn Relays. Gale had a personal best throw of 209 feet, five inches, to win the event, a meet that had over 300 teams, mostly Division I. Gale beat throwers from VMI, Bucknell, LSU, Rutgers, Duke, Penn State and South Carolina and became the first ESU athlete to win an event at the Penn Relays during coach Joe Koch's 20-year tenure. The Warriors will compete this weekend at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships at California University of Pennsylvania. Gale also won the award March 28 after winning the Richard Stockton Invitational with a then-best-in-the-country throw of 204-7. |
