Dr. Tom Gioglio is in his fourth year as the Director of Athletics at East Stroudsburg University. As the Director of Athletics & Athletic Department Chairperson, he is responsible for providing leadership of an athletic department which sponsors 21 teams with over 500 participating student-athletes and a staff of over 50.

Athletic facility renovations under Gioglio include the lighting, outdoor track and concession area at Eiler-Martin Stadium and the dugouts at Mitterling Field. There has also been a significant increase in revenue raised to enhance the athletic scholarship budget through fundraising initiatives sponsored through the Warrior Athletic Club, including the Television Fundraising Auction that was incorporated by Gioglio.

In addition to ensuring the efficient operation of the athletic department, Gioglio serves on several committees both on campus and in the community. His involvement at ESU includes the President's Commission for Racial and Ethnic Diversity, the Student Athlete Center for Excellence, the Student Athlete Advisory Council, the Intercollegiate Athletic Committee, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Athletic Directors Governing Council and the PSAC Executive Committee. Gioglio is the PSAC Athletic Trainers and Indoor Track Liaison, and a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the National Association of Division II Athletic Administrators. He is also a member of the Pocono YMCA Board and the Burnley Workshop of the Poconos Board.

During Gioglio's third year at ESU, he oversaw an athletic department that had numerous successes including many outstanding team and individual athletic and academic accomplishments.

ESU finished seventh in the PSAC in the Dixon Trophy standings in 2006-07, the highest placement for the university since it was fourth in the inaugural standings in 1995-96. The athletic department experienced a substantial increase in the department-wide winning percentage. ESU was also the most improved athletic program in the conference from the previous year.

Team successes included another PSAC championship for the men's soccer team, which claimed the title for the 12th time in the last 15 years. The women's basketball team was crowned PSAC East champions for the second consecutive season after compiling a regular season record of 24-3 and tying the school record with 25 wins.

Both the baseball and softball programs experienced their most successful seasons in more than 20 years, as the softball team qualified for the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 1981 and finished third in the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region. The baseball team made its first appearance in the PSAC Tournament since 1985, where the Warriors knocked off No. 1-ranked Kutztown.

The women's volleyball and men's basketball teams finished second in the PSAC East, and both qualified for the PSAC postseason tournament.

At the individual level, field hockey standout Ashley Kocis received the Honda Broderick Award as the most outstanding player in Division II and was named ESU's first PSAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Year. All-American track & field athlete Leslie Martin was named the Division II East Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year.

On the football field, All-Americans quarterback Jimmy Terwilliger and wide receiver Evan Prall graduated with nearly every school record, while Terwilliger set or tied 14 NCAA Division II records, including the all-division record for career touchdown passes.

Academically, ESU had 124 student-athletes named Scholar-Athletes during the academic year. The graduation rates and grade point averages of all student-athletes continued to be higher than the general student body.

A native of nearby Morristown, N.J., Gioglio was appointed Director of Athletics in the summer of 2004. He returned to the northeast after previously serving as the Director of Athletics at Dakota State University in South Dakota and the University of Saint Mary in Kansas.

During Gioglio's tenure at Dakota State, the athletic program reached unprecedented levels of success and growth, as the softball and baseball teams all set the school single-season win records, while the women's basketball team won the schools' first DAC-10 Championship and also advanced to the Sweet 16 of the National Tournament. The baseball team won the schools' first regional tournament championship advancing to the Super Regional.

At Saint Mary, the women's volleyball, men's soccer, softball and men's basketball teams all set school single-season win records, while the men's basketball team became the schools' first team to qualify for post season play.

Under Gioglio's leadership, USM and DSU saw major facility renovations and new construction. At USM the intercollegiate program expanded its sports offerings and facilities to include football, baseball and men's and women's golf. While at DSU, Gioglio supervised the renovation of all of the men's and women's locker rooms and selected office space.

Prior to his administrative endeavors, Gioglio accumulated 20 years of coaching experience from high school to NCAA Division I-A. He coached football, wrestling, baseball, and men's and women's tennis.

Gioglio earned his bachelor's degree in physical education at Montclair State University and his master's in education at Mansfield University. He earned his doctorate at West Virginia University. His dissertation was titled "College Athletics in the Future - A Comparative Study of Division I-A President and Athletic Director Perceptions." He completed a second master's degree from Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.

Gioglio and his wife Melissa are the proud parents of two daughters, Kalista and Kinley.
