Zachary Cappella
Welcome, students and parents, to East Stroudsburg University. My name is Zachary Cappella. I am a sophomore, double majoring in Computer Science and Computer Security, and I am considering a minor in Mathematics. I am from the small town of Bangor, Pennsylvania, which is close to ESU. I am an active member in several ensembles for ESU Bands as well as a member of the ESU Computer Science Organization. The best way for new students to get acclimated to their new environment (“their new home”) is to get involved in a variety of opportunities that the university has to offer; there are many amazing options. Making the transition from high school to the university experience may be challenging. I was in the same position a year ago. I always found it helpful to ask questions. If there is any way that I can help you, please let me know. I will gladly assist in any way I can. I want you all to feel comfortable asking me questions or engaging in conversation. LaShondra Cherry
Hello, parents and students, and, welcome to East Stroudsburg University! My name is LaShondra Cherry and I am from Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania. I am a senior, double majoring in Spanish and Communication Studies with a minor in French. This past semester, I studied abroad in Puerto Rico and it was amazing! Besides going to another country, there are lots of opportunities that East Stroudsburg University has to offer. There are many things to do around campus that are entertaining, educational, or both. Embracing these activities is a great way to meet people and build strong, long lasting friendships. Here at ESU, there are many clubs and organizations you can join, and if we don’t have it, make it! There are no excuses for anyone to be inactive. One thing you should always remember is to stay concentrated and motivated on why you are here; academics come first. There may be a lot of ups and downs, but I am confident that with the right attitude and approaches, that you will be able to make it! I am a desk receptionist in residence life, the vice president of Theta Chi Fraternity, and a member of the community board for Hemlock Suites. In addition, I am a member of the ESU Residence Hall Association, which is the governing body for all residence hall students, as well as the president of the ESU Athletic Training Club. Hello, parents and incoming East Stroudsburg University students! I am Tyler Dillon, a junior from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, majoring in Athletic Training. I am a member of Christian Fellowship and the ESU Athletic Training Club. I also have the responsibility of being a Resident Advisor for this upcoming fall semester in Shawnee Hall. Clubs create a great chance for everyone to get involved, so if the opportunity presents itself, always have an open mind about becoming active on campus. It feels like only yesterday that I came to freshman orientation, and I was in the same shoes as you. I am a senior studying Psychology in the counseling track. I am also involved in ESU Psychology Club, called Psych Association, and I was inducted into Psi Chi, the psychology national honors society. There are many opportunities to get involved here at ESU. Students: If you have a passion, I am certain that we have a club for nearly every interest. If not, start a new club! When it comes to your experience here at ESU, what you put into it is what you will get out of it. I am a sophomore, majoring in Political Science with a Pre-Law concentration, and I will be declaring a double minor in Spanish and French. I am an ESU Student Senator, a member of the ESU Feminist Alliance, and a member of the ESU Commuter Student Association (ESU Road Warriors). I strongly encourage all of you to carry out student success strategies like good time management, using sound note-taking, test-taking, textbook reading and paper writing skills. Also, get involved and meet new people! Getting involved is key to learning more about yourself and enhancing your university experience. This is an exciting time in your lives. I am a junior majoring in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. There is plenty to get involved with on and off campus. I am an active member of the ESU African-American Student Alliance (AASA), an organization designed to promote empowerment and inspiration to those receptive to African-American culture. I am also a member of the Voices of Triumph Gospel Choir and a university thespian. I have been fortunate to learn a lot about life from my experience at ESU, to better my character, and to meet a lot of amazing people from different parts of the world. Hello, parents and incoming students, and welcome to East Stroudsburg University! My name is Lisette Lojo and I am from Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania. I am currently a junior with a dual major in Sociology and Social Work. I am member of Lambda Iota Sorority as well as many other organizations on campus such as the Campus Activities Board (CAB), Sociology Club and Colleges against Cancer (CAC). Getting involved on campus is a great way to make friends and to embrace the campus community. In addition to the many clubs and organizations on campus, there are also many work study jobs you can obtain. I am a desk receptionist at Lenape Hall, and having my job has given me the opportunity to meet so many new people. And, I still have plenty of time to study and accomplish my academic work. ESU has a great campus community…from the faculty to the diverse population of students that you will meet. Hey, everyone! My name is Leah Majdic and I am a sophomore, originally from a small town named Mountain Top, Pennsylvania. But, most people know the city next to me, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. I am majoring in Pre-Law and Speech Communications with a minor in Philosophy. On campus, I am busy in numerous activities: ESU Residence Hall Association, Student Senate, Honors Program, Community Board, and the Campus Activities Board’s Cinema Committee. During the 2013 – 2014 year, I will be a Resident Advisor in Laurel Hall, along with being a course facilitator at Stony Acres. Hi, everybody! Welcome to East Stroudsburg University! My name is Roberto Retana and I am from right here in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. I am a senior with a dual major in French and Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management. On campus, I have been involved in Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society, for which I was Treasurer; our members pledge to continue to excel academically, promote academic excellence in others, and to help those who genuinely aspire to the same goals. I have also been the Public Relations Representative for the Latin American Association (LAA) and I have been a DJ for a Latin Radio hour on WESS 90.3 FM, the university’s radio station. My name is Ryan Rojas and I am a sophomore from Great Meadows, New Jersey, majoring in Media Communications and Technology. This is my first year being an orientation leader, and I am thrilled to take responsibility for helping introduce you to ESU, enabling you to learn and understand how to navigate your course here, impressing upon you the importance of serious study, and to give you a sense of how much fun you will have here. Getting involved is very important to me and you will soon see that there is so much to do! Hi, everyone. My name is Emily Selby and I am a junior with a major in Psychology. I am from Endwell, New York, and I recently have decided that I want to go into the field of Neuropsychology. A student needs to be sure to seek out his/her academic advisor, and do it early in the fall semester; advisors are here to help students in determining course options and career possibilities. In addition to being an ESU Orientation Leader here, I am also a Resident Advisor for Linden Hall. My strongest recommendation for new students is to get involved, get involved, get involved (yet, at a reasonable pace for you)! There are so many opportunities on campus for you to take part in, and once you do you won't regret it! You get to meet new people and expose yourself to new and different ideas. It looks great on your resume…it starts now. I am a commuter student from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. I am the recipient of a Board of Governors Scholarship, an active member of the Honors Program, the National Society of Leadership and Success, and a tutor at the ESU Writing Studio. I am also a member of various band ensembles; I served last year as the Head Drum Major of the Warrior Marching Band, as well as Vice President of ESU Bands. There is always something to do on campus, and I implore the incoming students to not just come to the university, but to live an active university life…inside and outside the classroom.
