While you may be academically qualified to attend ESU, U.S. law requires that you also be financially qualified to enter the U.S. in order to enroll at ESU. You must demonstrate that you will have available to you, sufficient monies to cover all cost as established by ESU for each year of study required to complete your program.

Costs of Attendance
The following table outlines the total costs of attendance for one year of study at East Stroudsburg University. Keep in mind that these are estimated costs. It is expected that tuition, room & board will increase for the 2008-2009 academic year. You should budget at least an additional 10% above these figures. Tuition & fees for optional summer courses are extra.

ESTIMATED

  • Tuition $14,664
  • Room & Board $6,500
  • General Fees $1,464
  • Books, Supplies, Insurance, Personal Expenses (estimated) $2,750
  • TOTAL $25,378
If you are married and plan to bring your spouse and/or children with you to East Stroudsburg, you should budget an additional $3,500 per year for your spouse and $2,000 per year for each child.

Tuition, Room & Board, and General Fees are subject to change beginning with the Fall 2008 semester.

Financial Assistance

On-campus employment
International students are permitted to work on campus. Typically, students who have on-campus jobs work 10 to 15 hours per week and are paid the prevailing minimum wage (currently $5.85 per hour.). However, because on-campus employment cannot be guaranteed, anticipated earnings from on-campus employment cannot be counted as a source of available support when we assess your financial need.

Off-campus employment
Students enrolled in F-1 (student) status may not work off-campus during their first year of study in the United States. Therefore, you should not look to employment as a means of support. If you already have F-1 status and are transferring to East Stroudsburg University, you should meet with the Director of International Programs as soon as arriving on campus, for information about applying for a Employment Authorization Document. If you already have an EAD, you should still meet with the Director of International Programs, to validate your authorization document.

Financial Disclosure Form
The purpose of the Financial Disclosure Form (FDF) is to determine your family's ability to provide financial support to you while you are enrolled at ESU. Using the information provided on the FDF and all the required supporting financial documents, we will calculate an expected family financial contribution. This information is required and no immigration documents will be issued until the Financial Disclosure Form and supporting documentation are received. When completing the FDF, remember the following:

Be sure to answer every question in section I and II. Incomplete applications will not be considered and you may jeopardize your chances for enrollment at the University.

All figures must be in U.S. dollars. (Click here for Personal Currency Converter)

Documentation of income, assets, debts, etc. must be provided. All documentation must be dated within one year of the date of your intended enrollment. Special or unusual circumstances should be stated on a separate attachment. The FDF should be enclosed with the application for admission.

Acceptable financial documentation consists of a copy of the most recent income tax form of anyone providing money for your education, e.g., yourself, your parents, your sponsors.

If your country does not have income tax, you may substitute a copy of weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly pay receipts of anyone providing money for your education. If regular pay receipts are not available provide a letter on company letterhead from the employer of anyone providing money for your education, showing the annual salary that is received.

Bank statements may only be used as a supplement to proof of income. If you send a bank statement, it must show the last six months' activity and must have been issued no more than three months prior to the day it is being sent. Non-government or agencies supporting you must provide their most recent summary profit and loss statement.

Statement of Support
The purpose of this document is to determine the availability of financial support you expect to receive from someone other than your parents. Applicants supported in whole or part by someone other than their parents or themselves, must submit this document completed by their sponsors, along with their sponsors proof of earnings. Applicants supported in whole or part by a sponsoring agency (for example, your government or an international organization) must be sure to have that agency submit an official award letter giving the particulars of the award, including the amount of the award, the duration of the award, and all conditions relating to the award. If two or more persons or agencies (for example, your uncle and a friend in the U.S., or a friend and your government) will support you, each sponsor must complete a separate document and proof of his/her earnings.

Promise of Room and Board
This document must be submitted on behalf of any student for whom room and board will be provided free of charge. The individual providing the free room and board must state that no services are expected from the student in return. The value of the room and board will depend upon whether it is being provided for the academic year ($4346), summer only ($2154), or both ($6,500).

Tuition waiver (Half)
Offered to international students who demonstrate financial need, academic excellence and potential contribution to the University. Only those students who submit the Financial Disclosure Form (FDF) and mandatory proof of earnings, will be considered for admission and tuition assistance. The waiver extends to tuition only, not to fees, room and board, or miscellaneous expenses. The deadline for receipt of the FDF is October 1 for spring semester (for students already legally in the US) and March 1 for the fall semester. Tuition waivers are renewable each year on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, and contribution to the cultural life of the campus and/or community. A minimum grade point average of 2.5 (on a scale of 0 to 4) must be maintained to be eligible for a half tuition waiver.

Summary
In order to prepare an I-20, the document required for a F-1 visa, ESU must be assured that sufficient funds will be available to the student for each of the years required to complete your academic program. The Statements of Support and Promise of Room and Board become a permanent part of the student's record and are viewed as representing a commitment on the part of the sponsor to provide the funds as stated.
