When to Apply We suggest that you apply early during your senior year in high school (before the end of December is ideal).
We prefer that you apply on-line.
Admission Criteria How did you do in high school? Our #1 criterion is your overall academic achievement. While not specifically required for consideration, we like to see challenging course selections in the following areas:
- 4 years of English
- 4 years of math (preferably algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and a senior-year college-prep math course)
- 3years of science (with at least two lab science courses)
- 3 years of social studies
- 2 years of a foreign language
What makes you unique? We also look for a good match between what you can contribute to the university and how the university can meet your expectations." Here's what we look for in a well-rounded student:
- Academic achievements (honors/AP courses, acadmic competitions, college credit while in high school, internships, awards, etc.)
- Leadership (student government, clubs, athletics, volunteer work, work experience, community awards, etc.)
- School Activities (participation in athletics, clubs, the arts, school spirit, service organizations, study abroad, etc)
- Special Qualities & Interests (whatever you think will make you stand out in a crowd)
We don't require an essay or recommendation when applying for admission.
How'd you do on those standardized tests? We look at your standardized test results - the SAT or ACT - to help us in the selection process. Here's how we use those scores:
- Critical Reading and Math: We combine these two scores for a total score for admission purposes. We don't have a minimum score, but the ideal score would be around 1000.
- Writing: We're not using this for admission, but do your best on it. We'll use it to help with your english placement if you enroll as an ESU student.
Deadline for Applying Prospective applicants are urged to submit their applications between August and January of their senior year for September admission. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is April 1. Only limited numbers of freshmen are admitted in January; therefore, students interested in January admission should contact the Office of Admission before applying.
Notification of Admission Applications are reviewed as they are received. Many applicants are notified on a "rolling" basis beginning on or about November 1, 2009, however, applicants should not expect notification prior to December 1, 2009. During the months of November and December we receive hundreds of applications, and the normal time for an applicant to be reviewed is four to six weeks.
Admission Presentations, Open House, Tours All freshmen applicants and their parents are encouraged to visit the campus. Admission presentations and campus tours are available during the fall and spring semesters. Open House is usually held in early November. Visit the Office of Admission visit program page for specific dates and times of all campus visit options. Personal interviews are not required.
