STATUS CHECK: Looking for the status check? We're sorry to report the link is currently under construction. Please check back in late November or early December.
High School Achievement
When the admission staff reviews your application, our primary consideration is your academic achievement in high school. Competitive applicants challenge themselves by taking courses beyond the minimum high school graduation requirements. You will be competing against more than 6000 applicants for a position in a freshman class of about 1200. Therefore, we will be selecting those applicants with the greatest potential for success. The courses you have taken in high school and the grades you earned in those courses are the best indicators of that potential. We're looking for students who have taken a solid college preparatory program and have achieved average grades of B or higher.
Expected Prep-Courses
While not specifically required for consideration, it is expected that successful applicants will have 4 years of English, algebra I and II, geometry, a senior year college-prep math course, 3 years of science (with at least 2 lab science courses), 3 years of social studies, and 2 years of a foreign language.
Leadership, Motivation and Activities
We value your contributions, including those that have made your school a better place, enhanced diversity, or have had an impact on individuals within or outside of your community. Tell us what you have achieved that will make your application stand out from the rest!
SAT and ACT Scores
There are no specific minimum or cut-off scores. However, SAT and/or ACT scores are still a very important part of the admission process. By the way, we consider your highest critical reading and math scores from any test administration when we review your application. For Fall 2006, the average SAT score of successful freshmen applicants was 1000. The middle 50% scored between 910 and 1070.
SAT-II Subject tests
The SAT-II Subject Tests are not required.
Personal Interview
ESU doesn't require an interview, but we suggest that you join us for an Admission Presentation and/or tour of campus.
Honors Admission
If you rank in the top 15% of your graduating class and score 1150 (based on critical reading & math) or higher on the SAT (26 or higher on the ACT), you will be offered admission to the Honors Program. If your school does not rank, you will be considered for the Honors Program if you have a B+ average or higher in a college-preparatory curriculum. There is no special application required.
