Student employment or the Federal Work-Study Program (FWSP) provides jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need. Students who are awarded employment, receive a Student Employment Authorization Form in the mail. Students are generally paid $7.15 per hour and work an average of ten hours per week. This allows students to earn money for personal expenses, as they receive a paycheck every other week.

If you received a student employment authorization form in the mail, you may begin looking for student employment immediately. The available positions are posted here. Job descriptions are outlined here.

The State Student Employment Program is available to students who do not demonstrate the level of financial need necessary for FWSP.

Students who have not been given authorization to work on campus and are still interested may inquire about available positions at the Center for Enrollment Services. To be eligible for student employment, students must have filed the 2006-2007 FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID. Returning ESU students must also have academic progress.

Academic Year Terms and Conditions of Employment
  • Students are awarded employment to help meet educational expenses.
  • Student employment earnings are considered to be earned income and are subject to all applicable Federal, State and local taxes.
  • Students are expected to work approximately ten (10) hours per week unless your award letter specifies a different number of hours (i.e., Resident Advisors, Peer Counselors, etc.). Students are not permitted to work more than fifteen (15) hours per week while school is in session.
  • Eight (8) is the maximum number of hours a student may work on any given day.
  • The student must accept the responsibility of reporting actual hours worked to their supervisor.
  • It is the student's responsibility to maintain an accurate record of his/her total hours worked to date, so as to avoid working more time than the contract provides. No payment is made for excessive hours. Departmental supervisors can provide you with an accurate accounting of hours.
  • Students must remain enrolled at East Stroudsburg University during the time they are employed.
  • Unacceptable job performance could lead to dismissal.
  • Job transfers are only permitted if a student can provide medical documentation supporting their inability to perform their assigned job.

If injury occurs while at work, the student must report it to the work supervisor and the Office of Human Resource Management, who will assist in completing all necessary forms. Pennsylvania Workman's Compensation is the exclusive remedy in the case of injury to a student employee.
