Most scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. Honors Program and some athletic scholarships are awarded based solely on individual criteria such as academic standing or athletic performance.

It should be noted that the selection criteria for the awards vary significantly. Among the factors which may impact upon a student's eligibility are: major course of study, quality point average, SAT scores, class rank, athletic prowess, recommendations of professors and teachers, and in some cases, geographic area.

Many of the scholarship areas require a separate application. The links below will assist in finding a scholarship designed for you.

Transfer Scholarships
Transfer Student Scholarship - Students who transfer directly to East Stroudsburg University with an associates degree from a Pennsylvania state community college are eligible for a scholarship valued at a minimum of $500. It is awarded each spring for the following academic year. Candidates for the scholarship must have a minimum QPA of 3.0. Contact: Office of Admission (570) 422-3542.

Hahn Scholarship - This scholarship valued at $2,500 is awarded annually to students graduating from the following high schools in Northampton County: Easton, Notre Dame of Bethlehem Township or Wilson. Total SAT 1050 and top 15% of graduating class are required. These scholarships are renewable for an additional three years providing the recipient remains enrolled full-time and completes at least 24 credits at East Stroudsburg University during the academic year and maintains at least a QPA of 3.0. Must have evidence of financial need. Consideration is request, but not required for aid to be supplied to students whose father is deceased. Contact: Office of Admission (570) 422-3542.

  •   Freshmen Scholarships
    •   Verizon Scholarship for Computer Science and Technology
      This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding incoming freshman. This is not a renewable scholarship.
    •   Abeloff Scholarship
      This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who is a math major.
    •   Alumni Association Students of Color Scholarship
      This $1,000 scholarship is for incoming freshman and is renewable for an additional year providing the student has a QPA of 3.0 at the end of the first academic year and is enrolled full-time.
    •   The ESSA Foundation Scholarship
      This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen in the designated areas in Monroe County that include Northampton County, Pen Argyl, Wind Gap, Bangor, East Bangor, Roseto, Upper Mount Bethel, Portland, Plainfield Township and Washington Township. This is a renewable scholarship up to four years provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA.
    •   Cecilia S. Cohen Act 101 Award
      This $50 award is presented to a student who was enrolled at East Stroudsburg University. The recipient must display significant progress and motivation. Contact: ACT 101 Director at East Stroudsburg University (570) 422-3507.
    •   Computer Science Scholarship Award
      This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman majoring in computer science. The student's high school record, both academic and extracurricular, are part of the evaluation process. Contact: Computer Science Department at East Stroudsburg University (570) 422-3666.
    •   ESU Foundation Scholars
      This $3,000 scholarship is awarded to a student who ranks in the top 5% of their high school class and are renewable for an additional three years provided the recipient maintains a minimum QPA of 3.2.
    •   Hahn Scholarship
      This scholarship valued at $2,500 is awarded annually to students graduating from high schools in Northampton County. Preference will be given to graduates of Easton, Notre Dame of Bethlehem Township or Wilson. The recipient must have a total SAT score of 1050 and be in the top 15% of their graduating class. These scholarships are renewable for an additional three years provided the recipient remains enrolled full-time and completes at least 24 credits at East Stroudsburg University during the academic year and maintains at least a QPA of 3.0. Must have evidence of financial need. Consideration is requested, but not required for aid to be supplied to students whose father is deceased.
    •   Rotary Club of the Stroudsburg Scholarship
      This $250 scholarship ($1,000 over four years) is awarded to high school seniors from Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg, or Notre Dame High School of East Stroudsburg. Recipient must demonstrate academic ability, financial need and special talents. The scholarship is renewable for a maximum four-year period providing the recipient maintains at least a 2.0 QPA.     •   Upward Bound Scholarship
      This $500 scholarship is awarded to a student who participated in the Upward Bound Program at East Stroudsburg University for at least two years. The recipient must have demonstrated a high level of commitment to the Upward Bound Program and must have attained at least a 2.5 quality point average in high school.   •   Admission Scholarships
    •   Alex and Helen Tween Staneski Endowed Scholarship
      Awarded to a graduate of Downingtown High School, Downingtown, PA, that graduates in the top 75% of their class. Must be a full time student; Renewable with full-time enrollment and a 2.75 QPA.
    •   Allen Greene Scholarship
      Awarded to a full- or part-time incoming student (US citizen only) with demonstrated financial need. Amount varies; A 3.0 average is required for renewal.
    •   Alumni Association Diverse Student Scholarships
      These $1,000 scholarships are awarded to students of color. The scholarship is renewable for a second year; candidates must be full-time students and must maintain a 3.0 average at the end of the first academic year.
    •   Alumni Association Transfer Student Scholarships
      Students who transfer directly to ESU with an associate’s degree from a PA public community college are eligible to be considered for a scholarship valued at a minimum of $500. Candidates must have at least a 3.0 average. A 3.0 average is required for renewal up to one additional year.
    •   Biological Sciences Department Scholarship
      Awarded to a freshman biological sciences student who ranks in the top 15% of the high school graduating class and has a minimum SAT score of 1000. Students must demonstrate leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities. Amount varies; Not renewable.
    •   Brinton Scholarships
      Criteria include high school grades, class rank and college admission test scores. $1000; renewable for up to three additional years.
    •   Board of Governors Tuition Scholarship for Cultural Diversity
      These scholarships are granted in the form of a waiver of tuition. The purpose of the scholarship is to enhance the recruitment and retention of students who will contribute to a culturally diverse campus. Candidates must be citizens of the US, residents of PA and have SAT scores of at least 900 (or an ACT score of at least 19.) Student activities and demonstrated leadership are also considered. These awards are renewable. Although financial need is not a determining factor, students who receive this scholarship must submit the FAFSA. For details ask for the Board of Governors Scholarship for Cultural Diversity brochure, available from the Office of Admission.
    •   Board of Governors Tuition Scholarship for Science and     Technology
      These scholarships are granted in the form of a waiver of tuition. The purpose of the scholarship is to enhance the recruitment and retention of students who are PA residents majoring in mathematics, science or technology programs, including math and science education. Students must have an SAT score of at least 1100 and rank in the top quarter of their graduating class. Transfer students who have 30 or more credits and a 3.0 average are also considered. To remain eligible students must continue enrollment in one of the approved programs of study. For a list of approved programs and other details about this scholarship, ask for the Board of Governors Scholarship for Science and Technology brochure, available from the Office of Admission.
    •   Brenda G. Deihl Memorial Scholarship
      Awarded to incoming freshman that graduated form Stroudsburg High School. Must be full-time student majoring in elementary education teacher certification. Amount varies; Not renewable.
    •   CAPERS Minority Teacher Scholarship
      Established by CAPERS (Community Advocates Promoting Education Recreation Support), a youth advocacy group, this scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshmen that graduated from the Bethlehem School District (Liberty or Freedom High Schools) and are pursuing a career in education. This scholarship is renewable by maintaining at least a 2.5 QPA.
    •   Class of ’62 Scholarship
      Awarded to incoming freshmen, one of which must be majoring in education. $2,000; not renewable.
    •   Class of ’76 Scholarships
      Awarded to an incoming freshman who ranks in the top half of their high school class and maintaining a minimum 2.75 QPA. Amount varies; Not renewable.
    •   Clementine and Lester Abeloff Scholarship
      Awarded to a freshman mathematics major. Amount varies; Not renewable.
    •   Darell and Cindy Kille-Convington Scholarship
      Awarded to an incoming freshman who ranks in the top half of his/her graduating class. Must be full-time student. Preference given to students of color and first generation college students. Amount varies; Renewable to full-time students that maintain at least a 2.5 QPA.
    •   Dillman/Morris Scholarship
      Awarded to an incoming freshman who ranks in the top half of his/her graduating class. Amount varies; renewable for up to three additional years by maintain at least a 2.75 QPA.
    •   Dr. and Mrs. Hamilton H.T. and Jean C. Lee Endowed     Scholarship
      Awarded to a full time incoming freshman majoring in communications. Amount varies; renewable with full time enrollment and minimum QPA of 2.75.
    •   Dr. Frederick S. Brown & Marion Pelton Brown Scholarship
      Awarded to incoming freshmen, preference given to students majoring in education. Recipients must graduate from White Mills, Hawley, or Honesdale area of Pennsylvania. Student must be in top 50% of graduating class and demonstrate financial need; Renewable with 2.75 Q.P.A in declared major.
    •   Edwards Family Scholarship
      Awarded to an incoming freshman in any major leading to secondary education teacher certification. Amount varies; not renewable.
    •   El-Chaar Scholarship
      Awarded to an incoming freshman that graduated from Parkland High School, Orefield PA. Financial need is required. Amount varies; renewable with full-time enrollment and minimum QPA of 3.0.
    •   ESSA Bank and Trust Scholarship
      Awarded to an incoming freshmen from Monroe County (PA) and the following towns in Northampton County(PA): Pen Argyl, Wind Gap, Bangor, East Bangor, Roseto, Upper Mount Bethel, Portland, Plainfield Township and Washington Township. $1000; A 3.0 average is required for renewal up to three additional years.
    •   Eugene Stish Scholarship
      Awarded to a highly-qualified freshman. Recipient must be enrolled full-time. Amounts varies; Renewable with full-time enrollment and 2.75 Q.P.A.
    •   Fitzgerald Art Scholarship
      Awarded to a prospective ESU freshman in a Monroe County (PA) high school who intends to major or minor in art. Students must demonstrate a competency in art, be a student in good standing, be recommended by their high school and submit an art portfolio. Amount varies; Not renewable.
    •   Harry and Jeannie Lee Scholarship
      Awarded to an African American incoming freshman who graduated in the top 50% of their high school class. Amount varies; Renewable with full-time enrollment and 2.5 average in major.
    •   Hughes Foundation Scholarships
      These $2000 scholarships are awarded to graduates of Monroe County (PA) high schools. Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic achievement, co-curricular activities and general good citizenship.
    •   John Arslanian Scholarship
      Awarded to incoming freshmen who meet the Honors Program admission criteria and who have financial need. A $2,500; renewable for up to three additional years with a 3.0 Q.P.A demonstrated financial need and full-time student status.
    •   Jonas T. May Mathematics Scholarship
      Awarded to a freshman mathematics major (including teacher certification in mathematics.) SAT scores, high school class rank and performance in high school mathematics courses are considered. Not renewable.
    •   Josephine Madara McArthur Freshman Scholarship
      Awarded to an incoming freshman graduating in the top 50% of their high school class. Must be enrolled full time. Amount varies; Renewable with full time enrollment and minimum 2.5 QPA.
    •   Mabel I. Meyers Scholarship
      Awarded to a freshman applicant who ranks in the top 5% of the class and has an SAT score of 1100 or higher. $1000; A 3.3 average is required for renewal up to three additional years.
    •   Mary Walsh Krahe Presidential Scholarship
      Awarded to the most highly qualified freshman applicant from Lackawanna County (PA). Recipients must meet Honors Program admission criteria (top 15% of class and 1150 or higher SAT score.) Amount varies; Renewable for up to three additional years if full-time student maintaining a minimum 3.0 QPA.
    •   Maureen Mussett Welch Scholarship
      Awarded to a freshman from Bucks County (PA) majoring in education. The recipient will demonstrate a well-rounded background in academics, athletics and community service and have a 3.0 average in the senior year in high school. Two letters of recommendation must be included with the application for admission. Amount varies; not renewable.
    •   McDonough/McNulty Endowed Scholarship
      Awarded to an incoming freshman that is enrolled full-time and has demonstrated financial need. This scholarship is renewable provided that the student continues to be enrolled full-time and maintains at least a 2.5 QPA.
    •   Millennium Scholarships
      Granted to a highly qualified incoming freshmen. Amount varies. A 3.0 average is required for renewal up to three additional years.
    •   Monroe County Housing Authority Scholarship
      Awarded to an incoming ESU freshman or transfer student that is a resident of Monroe County Housing Authority at the time of selection and have met the minimum criteria for admission to ESU. The scholarship is renewable.
    •   Out-of-State Tuition Reduction Scholarship for Students     Majoring in Science and Technology
      Awarded to out-of-state residents who plan to major in any program offered through the departments of biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics (including teacher certification in those fields) and who meet the following criteria: top 25 percent of high school class, SAT score of 1100 or higher (or ACT composite score of 24 or higher). Transfer applicants who have earned 30 or more credits and at least a 3.0 GPA are also eligible. Students who qualify will pay 150 percent of the current in-state tuition rate instead of the regular 250 percent; renewable for up to three additional years.
    •   Paul E. Edinger, Jr. Scholarship
      Awarded to a freshman who plans to major in psychology, elementary education and/or the engineering transfer program. Recipient must rank in the top 10 percent of the class and have an SAT score of 1000 or higher. Amount varies; renewable for up to three additional years.
    •   President’s Cabinet Board Scholarships
      A maximum of 20 awards are made to freshmen applicants who are Pennsylvania residents, who meet Honors Program admission criteria and who plan to reside on campus. The award covers the cost of the 19-meal plan; renewable for up to three additional years.
    •   President’s Cabinet Technology Enhancement Awards
      A maximum of 20 awards are made to freshmen applicants who are Pennsylvania residents and meet Honors Program admission criteria. The award consists of a loan of a laptop computer and is renewable for up to three additional years.
    •   Presidential Scholarships
      Awarded to highly qualified freshmen applicants. Criteria include an SAT score of 1100 or higher and a class rank of top 5%. Amount varies. A 3.3 average is required for renewal up to three additional years.
    •   Prince Hall Scholarships
      These scholarships are granted to Prince Hall Scholars graduating form Prince Hall High School in Philadelphia, PA. The awards are in the form of a waiver of tuition, fees, room & board and book expenses. Candidates must have a 3.0 average and have an 850 or higher SAT. Students must also demonstrate strong civic responsibility through notable community service. Renewable for up to three additional years. Submission of the FAFSA is required.
    •   Richard and Clare Hahn Scholarships
      These $2,500 scholarships are awarded to graduates high schools in Northampton County (PA). Preference is given to graduates of Easton Area High School, Wilson Area High School and Notre Dame of Green Pond (Easton). Students must rank in the top 15% of the graduating class, have SAT scores of 1050 or higher and demonstrate financial need. A 3.0 average is required for renewal up to three additional years.
    •   Richard J. Farmer 85’ Memorial Endowed Scholarship
      Awarded to a freshman majoring in Communications that graduated from high school in the top 50% of their graduating class. Preference is given to students who are enrolled in history or political science courses beyond graduation requirement. Financial need is required and the scholarship is renewable if the student maintains at least a 3.0 QPA, continues to be enrolled full-time and takes a history or political science course.
    •   Robert and Amy Welsh Presidential Scholarship
      Awarded to a highly-qualified freshman applicant. Candidates must rank in the top 5% of their graduating class and have a minimum SAT score of 1100. Amount varies; A 3.3 average is required for renewal up to three additional years.
    •   Robert and Marian Willever Endowed Scholarship
      Awarded to an incoming freshman graduating in the top 50% of their class. Must be a full-time student. Not renewable; student must demonstrate financial need.
    •   Sanofi Pasteur Honors Scholarships for Biology
      Awarded annually to freshmen biological sciences majors. Selection is based on superior academic performance, preferably in the top 15 percent of their high school class with a minimum SAT score of 1000. $1,000; not renewable.
    •   Sanofi Pasteur Honors Scholarships for Computer Science
      Awarded annually to freshmen computer science majors. Selection is based on superior academic performance, preferably in the top 15 percent of their high school class with a minimum SAT score of 1000. $1,000; not renewable.
    •   Therese M. Macaluso Endowed Scholarship
      Awarded to incoming freshmen majoring in Education. First priority given to non-traditional students over age 21. Financial need is primary consideration; Not renewable.
    •   Warren Hoeffner Scholarship
      Awarded to a highly qualified incoming freshman. Amount varies; Not renewable.
    •   William H. Woods Memorial Endowed Scholarship
      Awarded to an African American male incoming freshman majoring in business. Must have graduated in the top 40% of their high school class and be a full-time student. Renewable for three additional years by maintaining full-time status and a QPA of 2.7.

      Cohen Ar Scholarship
      Named in memory of Cecilia S. Cohen, this $50 award is given to a full-time art student who has completed at least 30 credits with a minimum QPA of 3.0 in art course work. The recipient must have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in the theater arts and service to the art programs at East Stroudsburg University.

      American Association of University Women Pocono Branch Scholarship
      Established by the Pocono Area Branch of AAUW, this $500 scholarship is awarded to the highest ranking woman who has completed at least 96 credits with 60 of the credits being completed at East Stroudsburg University with a minimum QPA of 3.5.       C. Warner Smith Scholarship
      This $2,174 scholarship established in memory of C. Warner Smith and is awarded to an undergraduate majoring in environmental studies. The recipient must be a full-time student maintaining a minimum QPA of 3.0 and a QPA of 3.2 in the major.

      Robert J. Shields Scholarship
      This $840 scholarship established in honor of Robert J. Shields, Class of 1955 is awarded to a student majoring in biology. The recipient may be either full-time or part-time and must have an overall QPA of 3.0. This is a non-renewable scholarship.

      American Association of University Women Pocono Branch Scholarship
      Established by the Pocono Area Branch of AAUW, this $500 scholarship is awarded to the highest ranking woman who has completed at least 96 credits with 60 of the credits being completed at East Stroudsburg University with a minimum QPA of 3.5.       Elizabeth Kurtz Scholarship
      Established in memory of Elizabeth Kurtz, the first female on the science faculty specializing in geology and geography, this $1,980 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed at least 30 credits with a minimum QPA of 2.5 and a QPA of 3.0 in the major.

    •   Communication Studies
      Communication Studies Scholarship
      This $500 scholarship is awarded to student enrolled full-time. The recipient must show exceptional academic abilities and promise in studies of human communication, must have completed 62 credits at East Stroudsburg University and must have a minimum QPA of 3.0 and a QPA of 3.4 in the major. Top junior students are preferred recipients. This is not a renewable scholarship.
    •   Computer Science

      Sanofi Pasteur Computer Science Scholarship
      This $1,034 scholarship is awarded to a students majoring in computer science. It is warded each spring for the following fall semester.

      Computer Science Scholarship
      This $940 scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in computer science based on student's academic record.

      Laird Technologies Scholarship
      This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in computer science. Applicant must submit an application to the Computer Science Department.

      Elizabeth Kurtz Scholarship
      Established in memory of Elizabeth Kurtz, the first female on the science faculty specializing in geology and geography, this $1,980 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed at least 30 credits with a minimum QPA of 2.5 and a QPA of 3.0 in the major.

      Professor Richard Prince Memorial Scholarship
      This $1,890 scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in Computer Science, having completed at least two semesters of course work at East Stoudsburg University.

      Proteus Technologies
      This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduate students majoring in Computer Science in one of the four areas: Distributed computing and framework development; Advanced and scientific computing; Software development process and engineering; web and enterprise computing. Recipient must be a US citizen.

      Sheldon J. Snyder Memorial Scholarship
      This $900 scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior majoring in Computer Science with a minimum 3.0 QPA and a QPA of 3.25 or greater in their major coursework.

      Weiler Company Computer Science Scholarship
      This $1,500 scholarship is awarded in the spring semester to a student who is a graduate of a Monroe County High School. Recipient must have demonstrate academic merit upon completion of the first semester as a computer science major at East Stroudsburg University. Financial need is also considered.

    •   Criminal Justice

      Cecilia S. Cohen Memorial Criminal Justice Award
      Named in memory of Cecilia S. Cohen, this $100 award is given to a criminal justice major who has demonstrated an extraordinary ability in the field of criminal justice through internships, volunteer work, research, special projects and activities closely related to the criminal justice field. The recipient must have completed at least 30 credits at East Stroudsburg University with 12 credit in criminal justice administration with a minimum QPA of 3.0.

      Fraternal Order of Police Scholarship
      This $370 scholarship is awarded to a graduate of a Monroe County high school who has demonstrated academic excellence in the field of criminal justice.

    •   Early Childhood & Elementary Education
      EARLY CHILDHOOD & ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

      Mildred E. Beers Scholarship
      This $3,110 scholarship is named in honor of retired elementary school teacher and alumna Mildred E. Beers, '29. The recipient must be enrolled full-time and must have completed at least 60 credits with a minimum QPA of 3.0. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of professional promise, a high level of service to the university and a high level of service to the community.

      Boquist Kemp Strauch Scholarship
      This $500 scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need to a junior with a minimum 2.75 QPA. The recipient must have declared their major in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and may be enrolled part-time. Awarded each spring for the following academic year to help mid-career student who have graduated from high school for at least five years pursue a degree in education.

      Class of 1937 Scholarship
      This $900 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed at least 30 credits who has declared a major in early childhood and elementary education with the intent to become a teacher who also demonstrates excellence in academic performance and professional service.

      Class of 1938 Scholarship
      This $660 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed at least 30 credits who has declared a major in early childhood and elementary education with the intent to become a teacher. Recipient must have a minimum QPA of 2.5 with a QPA of 3.0 in the major and must have a financial need.

      Class of 1940 Scholarship
      This $440 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed at least 30 credits who has declared a major in early childhood and elementary education with the intent to become a teacher. The recipient must be a Pennsylvania resident who demonstrates academic excellence.

      Class of 1942 Scholarship
      This $470 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed at least 30 credits who has declared a major in early childhood and elementary education with the intent to become a teacher. Recipient must have a minimum QPA of 3.0 and must have a financial need.

      Class of 1947 Scholarship
      This $470 scholarship is awarded to a student who has a declared major in Special Education and Rehabilitation Secondary or Early Childhood Education Health or Movement Studies and Science with an intent of becoming a teacher. The recipient must have completed 30 credits at ESU with a minimum QPA of 3.0 and must demonstrate financial need.

      Class of 1954 Scholarship
      This $570 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed at least 30 credits who has declared a major in early childhood and elementary education with the intent to become a teacher. Recipient must have a minimum QPA of 3.0. Financial need may be considered. Preference is given to an applicant who indicates that they have a parent or grandparent who graduated from East Stroudsburg University.

      Class of 1955 Scholarship
      This $660 scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in Movement Studies, Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, Health, or Special Education and Rehabilitation with a minimum QPA of 2.75 and an overall QPA of 3.0 in his/her major.       This $1,470 scholarship established in honor of Peggy Errico'55 to assist an ESU undergraduate majoring in Elementary Education. Recipient must enroll full or part-time.

      William Erm Memorial Scholarship
      This $500 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed 90 credits with a minimum QPA of 3.0 in the major and an overall GPA of 2.75. Student must be preparing for a career to teach Science and may be enrolled full or part-time. Preference will be given to Monroe County residents. Awarded each spring for the following academic year.

      This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who has a minimum QPA of 3.0 after the first semester of the freshman year. The recipient must demonstrate a financial need.

      Established by East Stroudsburg University professor emeritus Rose Mekeel in memory of her husband, East Stroudsburg University alumnus '32, and her daughter, East Stroudsburg University alumna '62, this $550 scholarship assists a single parent in furthering their education and professional training. Recipient must be enrolled full-time and must have completed at least 64 credits with a minimum QPA of 3.0.

      Established by East Stroudsburg University alumnus Ray Starner '69 in honor of his parents, this $720 scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who has completed at least 62 credits with at least 48 credits completed at East Stroudsburg University with 8 of those classes in management and economics with a minimum QPA of 3.25.       This $500 scholarship is awarded in the Fall to a student enrolled in a degree in the field of hotel management. First consideration goes to graduates of Pocono Mountain High School. If no candidate is available then a graduate of a local high school in Monroe County would be selected.

      Tichy Family Scholarship
      This $1,000 scholarship was established by alumnus Dr. Michael Tichy '48 and his wife, Anna Mae for student majoring in health or physical education. The recipient must be enrolled as a full time undergraduate who will not graduate before the end of the spring semester of the academic year for which the scholarship is awarded.       Named in memory of Cecilia S. Cohen, this $100 award is given to an outstanding student in philosophy. To be eligible, the recipient must exhibit proficiency in philosophical studies or excellence in some aspect of philosophy above the work required, or to a student submitting the winning essay in an essay competition.

      Paul Kicska Scholoarship
      Created by family and friends in memory of Paul A. Kicska, a former professor in Physics. This $390 scholarship is given to upper class level physics majors.

      Elizabeth Kurtz Memorial Scholarship
      Established in memory of Elizabeth Kurtz, the first female on the science faculty specializing in geology and geography, this $1,980 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed at least 30 credits with a minimum QPA of 2.5 and a QPA of 3.0 in the major.

      Masker-Miller Memorial Scholarship
      This $1,090 scholarship established to provide recognition and financial assistance to students enrolled in Earth and Space Science at ESU with a minimum QPA of 2.5 and a QPA of 3.0 in the major. Recipient must be enrolled full-time and be a US citizen.

      This $470 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed at least 30 credits who has declared a major in professional and secondary education or special education with the intent to become a teacher. Recipient must have a minimum QPA of 3.0 and must have a financial need.

      Class of 1954 Scholarship
      This $570 scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed at least 30 credits who has declared a major in professional and secondary education or special education with the intent to become a teacher. Recipient must have a minimum QPA of 3.0. Financial need may be considered. Preference is given to an applicant who indicates that they have a parent or grandparent who graduated from East Stroudsburg University.

      Class of 1955 Scholarship
      This $660 scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in Movement Studies, Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, Health, or Special Education and Rehabilitation with a minimum QPA of 2.5 and an overall QPA of 3.0 in his/her major. The recipient must have completed 30 credits and exhibit financial need. The recipient will be selected by the Alumni Association Scholarship Committee in the Spring for the following academic year.

      This $1,370 scholarship is awarded each spring for the following academic year to a junior or senior with a declared major field of study in Secondary Education. Recipients must have a minimum overall QPA of 3.0 with a 3.25 QPA in their Major.

      Murray & Helen Nace Memorial Scholarship
      Established in memory of alumni Murray, '35 and Helen Kunkle Nace, '25, this $2,360 scholarship is awarded to a full-time education major who has demonstrated a high level of service and commitment to the program and to teaching. Recipient must have completed at least 45 credits with a minimum QPA of 3.0.

      Prof. Donald Bortz Exellence in Secondary Education Scholarship
      This $900 scholarship is awarded to students majaoring in Professional and Secondary Education who have a minimum of a QPA of 3.0. This is not a renewable scholarship.

      Established in memory of Mrs. Evelyn Hodge who instilled the essential values of commitment, tenacity, hard work and academic achievement in her three daughters, this $1,000 scholarship is awarded in the form of a East Stroudsburg University Bookstore voucher. Recipient must have completed at least 64 credits with a minimum QPA of 2.75 with a QPA of 3.0 in the major. The recipient must also demonstrate active participation in either Psi Chi, the Psychology Honor Society, or the Student Psychological Association and other university-wide organizations.

      Established in memory of Dr. John H. Jones, professor of recreation and leisure services management and 1964 alumnus of the university, this $550 scholarship is given to a student who exemplifies the professionalism which Dr. Jones tried to instill in his students. The recipient must have completed at least 62 credits with a minimum QPA of 2.75 and a QPA of 2.75 in the major. It is awarded each spring for the current spring or following summer semester.

      This $500 scholarship is awarded to Recreation major students with a concentration in Commercial Recreation having completed 62 credit hours, 9 credits in major. Recipients must have minimum QPA of 2.75 overall and in major area.

      Resorts USA Scholarship
      This $500 scholarship established by Resorts USA is awarded to a undergraduate student at ESU majoring in Recreation and Leisure Services Management with a concentration in commercial recreation. Recipient must be enrolled either full-time or part-time and have an overall QPA of 3.0.

      Named in memory of Cecilia S.       Phoenix Players Award
      This $125 scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who has completed at least two semesters at East Stroudsburg University with a minimum QPA of 3.0 in theater courses. Recipient must demonstrate a high quality level of theatrical performance either on-stage or backstage. The recipient will work throughout the school year to maintain the spirit and performance efficiency of the theater program, and must perform each semester in a production, either on-stage or backstage.

      Dale Snow Memorial Award
      Established in memory of professor Dale Snow, this $500 award is given to a full-time student who has completed at least 30 credits at East Stroudsburg University with a minimum QPA of 3.0 in the major. The recipient must have demonstrated a high level of proficiency, professionalism, and continuing commitment in theater and/or speech communication arts at East Stroudsburg University.

      One $1,000 scholarship is given to the student station manager and one $500 scholarship is given to the student program manager. The candidates must hold an elected or appointed office at WESS, must be in good standing with the WESS staff, must commit within reason to continuing to carry out the duties of the office after the award has been received, and must be in good social standing at the time of the award.       This 2,530 scholarship with a variable value was established by Dominic DiGioacchino to honor Pasquale DiGioacchino's contributions to East Stroudsburg University and the sport of wrestling. The recipient must meet the current NCAA academic eligibility standards and must show outstanding leadership skills and the ability to wrestle at the NCAA Division I level.     •   Doc-Ock Scholarship
      This award was named in memory of Dr. George Ockershausen, East Stroudsburg University faculty member for 34 years and chair of the Health Department. This $420 award is presented annually in a rotating sequence to a student participating in baseball, football, and wrestling. To be eligible, students must be enrolled full-time, have competed 45 credits and, in the opinion of the coaching staff, have made outstanding and significant contributions to that sport.
    •   Jack Gregory Football Scholarship
      Established by alumni in honor of Jack Gregory, former East Stroudsburg University football coach, this $3,850 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding football athlete who demonstrates academic excellence. Contact: Head Football Coach at East Stroudsburg University (570 422-3642.
    •   Brian E. McClanahan Memorial Scholarship
      Established in memory of Brian McClanahan, a 4-year letter winner in track from 1982-85, this $280 scholarship is awarded to a member of the Men's Track Team who is enrolled as a full-time student and has completed at least 60 credits, has a minimum 3.0 QPA, and has earned at least one varsity letter in men's track and field.     •   S. Jerome and Phyllis Rubin Football Scholarship
      Named in honor of Pocono business leaders Jerome and Phyllis Rubin, two $1,370 scholarships are awarded to outstanding football athletes who demonstrated academic excellence. Contact: Head Football Coach at East Stroudsburg University (570) 422-3642.
    •   Elsie E. Strube Memjorial Scholarship
      Established in the memory of Elsie Strube, this $1,530 scholarship is given to Freshmen entering the fall semester as a member of the University football team.
