Assistant Technology Aide


Responsibilities:
  1. Handle all aspects of obtaining taped textbooks from Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D) including checking availability, ordering, notifying students, tracking, returning tapes.
  2. Take charge of assistive devices (e.g. tape players, spell checkers) which are loaned to students; this includes cataloging, signing equipment out and in, contacting students.
  3. Make appointments for faculty in Disability Services.
  4. Assist with other office work related to disability services.
Qualifications:

The student worker who assumes this position should have an interest in and sensitivity to the needs of individual's that have disabilities. This person must be organized and able to work independently. The ability to maintain confidentiality is an absolute requirement.

Art Gallery Monitor
Responsibilities:
  1. Monitor the Art Gallery during the hours it is open to the public.
  2. Act as a receptionist in the Gallery.
  3. Assist with the supervision of events related to the Gallery.
  4. Assist in the installation and removal of exhibits in the Gallery.
  5. Assist in the preparation of publicity materials for general distribution.

Junior Fire Marshall

The Student Fire Marshall will assist the Health and Safety Specialist in carrying out the following duties:
  1. Conducts visual inspections of portable fire extinguisher units as assigned, noting conditions on report, as well as signing inspection tags. Inspections will include reading as well as programming with the hand-held portable barcode reader/scanner. Work requires occasional lifting, entering mechanical areas and climbing ladders to inspect extinguisher units.
  2. Conducts visual inspections of fire hose racks as assigned, noting conditions on report, as well as signing inspection tags. Inspections will include reading as well as programming with the hand-held portable barcode reader/scanner.
  3. Conducts visual inspections of campus-wide fire safety equipment, which includes, but is not limited to, fire extinguishers, fire alarm devices, exit doors, exit lights, emergency doors, emergency door alarms, fire hoses, standpipes, emergency generators, and emergency phones. Inspections will employ the use of barcode reader/scanner to read as well as input data.
  4. Assists staff employer in preparing medical and hazardous waste for disposal. This includes inventorying, collecting, and distributing sharp containers to various campus and laboratory locations.
  5. Assists staff employer in maintaining Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS's) in all locations. This may involve inputting information into a computer using a scan or and/or by data entry. Familiarity with computer software date base and spreadsheet programs is desired.
  6. Assists staff employer in preparation of training on fire safety and use of extinguishers for faculty, staff and student resident advisors.
  7. Conducts inspections of Residence Hall and other campus first aid kits.
  8. Assists staff employer with conducting employee and student fire drills.
  9. Assists staff employer with Safe Kids Day Fair activities. This usually occurs during the first Saturday of May each year.
  10. Conducts visual inspections and does testing of all campus emergency phones. Inspections will include reading as well as programming with the hand-held portable barcode reader/scanner.

Peer Counselor

Students selected as peer counselors will function as members of the Center for Educational Opportunity staff. It is anticipated that much of the counseling will take place in informal settings; i.e. resident halls, dining hall, and the student union. However, some counseling may take place in the CEO Counseling Office.

Responsibilities:
  1. Counseling responsibilities: to provide confidential assistance under the supervision of the CEO Counselor Coordinators in helping students to deal with academic, personal and career concerns. This shall be done primarily through individual counseling interviews and group activities.
  2. Consultation with CEO Counselor Coordinators: Attend consultations regarding individual students, bi-monthly or as needed.
  3. Files and records: to provide the basis for follow-up services or referrals, confidential records shall be maintained of counseling visits and other counseling services. These records shall be reviewed with the CEO Counselor Coordinators bi-monthly or as needed.
  4. In-service training: attend in-service training sessions bi-monthly in order to develop counseling skills and enhance efficiency in dealing with peers.
  5. Peer counselor staff meetings: to exchange information pertinent to the functioning of the peer counselor program.
  6. Referrals: to provide counselors with confidential referral services to the professional counseling staff as well as other offices with the college: i.e. financial aid office, business office.
June/Jan Program:
Peer Counselor Program Job Description


June/Jan Peer Counselors are required to work 35 hours a week, distributing their work among the following responsibilities:
  1. The primary job responsibility for Peer Counselors is to develop, and run a June/Jan evening workshop series. The workshops will address a first-year student's academic and personal concerns. Peer Counselors have a caseload given to them by the June/Jan program coordinator. Referrals for serious issues should be made to Dr. Joseph Miele, program coordinator.
  2. Peer Counselors are required to attend a five hours of peer counseling meetings each week with the June/Jan program coordinator to receive supervision and discuss the progress of students.
  3. Peer Counselors are expected to encourage students to utilize ALL services offered by the University. This includes counseling, tutoring, labs, and participation in the June/Jan opening workshop series.
  4. All contacts with June/Jan students must be documented. This includes both telephone and face-to-face sessions. It is expected that Peer Counselors use discretion with their documentation and maintain confidentiality.
  5. If requested, Peer Counselors may be asked to serve as readers for tests or examinations for students with disabilities and will be paid for this service.
  6. Peer Counselors are also required to assist with general office maintenance such as filing, mailings, and posting flyers regarding to June/Jan program services and/or upcoming events. Peer counselors are required to have 5 office hours a week.
Peer Health Educator

Peer Health Educators are students who have completed a minimum of 12 credits and are currently enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits. They are hired through a selective process to promote positive wellness lifestyles on campus through lifestyle workshops and wellness-related activities. The Peer Health Educator will:
  1. Conduct educational presentations as requested.
    1. Manage and scheduling of programs

    3. Conduct follow-up correspondence with program host.
