National
Board Certification is a demonstration of a teacher's practice as
measured against high and rigorous standards. It is a symbol of
commitment to excellence in teaching. When a teacher achieves a
National Board certificate, it's a credential attesting to the fact
that a teacher has been assessed by his or her peers as one who is
accomplished, makes sound professional judgments about student
learning, and acts effectively with those judgments. East
Stroudsburg University is committed to providing leadership in
promoting and supporting National Board Certification in Northeastern
Pennsylvania.
Future Direction
The Department of Professional and Secondary Education at East Stroudsburg University proposes an ongoing working relationship with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to:
- Develop
a National Board Certification Center housed at East Stroudsburg
University to promote, support, and celebrate candidates in
Pennsylvania and New Jersey and coordinate information between school
districts and higher education institutions.
- Develop
a Master's Degree Program addressing National Board Standards, which
includes courses to guide students through the National Board
Certification process.
- Sponsor
facilitator training programs to prepare university and school faculty
and administrators to support National Board Certification candidates.
- Seek
support of local groups, schools districts, and state legislatures to
provide financial and other recognition to National Board Certified
teachers.
