Part A — Foundation Requirements
The curriculum for the Bachelor of Science in Management degree is in the process of being restructured to meet the requirements of AACSB accreditation. Beginning in the Fall semester of 2008, students will be required to follow a similar curriculum as described below. Until that time, the department will provide greater flexibility in scheduling courses.
B.S. Management Degree with Specialization in: Management
- In addition to the pre-business and business core requirements, students must complete 5 courses in their area of specialization.
- General education (See separate checklist) requirements totaling 50 semester hours, 36 of which are pre-business core.
- A minimum of 30 hours our of a total 120 required hours must be 300 or 400 level courses.
- Transfer students must complete a minimum of 5 Management courses at ESU.
- Final 32 hours of degree requirements must be done at ESU.
- 64 hours of EMGT courses are the maximum allowed towards the degree.
- Students need a 2.5 or above QPA in Management courses to graduate
Pre-Business Core Courses
The Department of Business Management accepts all students admitted to the University into its pre-business program, but starting in Fall, 2008 admission to the College is required prior to a business major enrolling in upper-division business classes. The College's admission policy is designed to help business students develop the sound academic foundation that is needed to complete a degree in business. The College of Business and Management requires that students take a series of core general education (GE) requirements and have a QPA of 2.5 or better to be officially accepted as a major in Management.
The Pre-Business core is as follows: CMST 111 Speech Communications CPSC 100 PC's and Their Uses ENGL 205 Workplace Writing PSY 100 Psychology MATH 110 General Statistics MATH 130 Appl Algebraic methods MATH 280 Math of Finance or any EMGT Quantitative Course
You may substitute any of the following courses for your math requirements in the pre-business core. EMGT 201 Decision Science EMGT 250 Quantitative Business Analysis I EMGT 350 Quantitative Business Analysis II EMGT 451 Management Science ECON 332 Forecasting Methods ECON 415 Econometrics
Business Core Courses The Department of Business Management requires that students take a series of core business requirements. Students in all specializations are required to know the fundamentals of how a business operates, how it works and how it remains profitable.
The Business core is as follows: EMGT 200 Principles of Management EMGT 204 Principles of Marketing EMGT 211 Financial Accounting Fundamentals EMGT 212 Mangerial & Cost Accounting Fundamentals EMGT 225 Business Law EMGT 306 Financial Management EMGT 352 Human Resource Management EMGT 452 Organizational Strategy
Part B - Specialization Requirements
- Students must select a specialization area and complete a minimum of five courses in that area.
- After completing five courses in one specialization, students are encouraged to use free electives to take additional courses within selected specialization or another specialization.
